Unable to install; All medieval II total was: Gold products are already installed. aborting installation.

I'm trying to install medieval total war II on my laptop, however when i do so i get the error message; "All medieval II total was: Gold products are already installed. aborting installation." my laptop used to be owned by a friend of mine, who had this game installed, when i bought this laptop off him he removed all the programs, i have searched through the c drive and found nothing when searching medieval, and all results when searching total war are from other games in this series. I'm pretty desperate to play it as it is in my opinion the best total war game, all of those since have been disappointing. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Are you using a Steam version of M2TW, or CD-DVD version?

1) Check the Installed programs in your Start/Control Panel/Programs-Uninstall a Program. If you find Medieval 2 , then it is installed.

2) Ask your friend how did he remove all programs from this laptop/hard drive?
