Default carthage with 85e... what is happening?

Ok i have never ever played as Carthage but thought i would give it ago.. and nearly every turn i have slums even tho i have cleared them many times i still get slums, i have no money and nearly every settlement is on the verge of revolt and that's only 10 turns or so in to the game? i loose Syracuse, all the western provinces and have only four city's or towns? this is like the first 10 goes or so... Eh? this is playing on normal, is this right or is it meant to be like pathetically difficult with in the first 15 turns to play Carthage? will have another go, but also i have like every city starving?? i mean i can understand as the game goes on but early on in game it just puts you off and is f....g annoying doh!!

You shouldn't get slums unless you spend the population points to open up building slots without building anything in them. Was there maybe a vanilla game change that causes extra building slots to open automatically?

I just started a Carthage campaign yesterday and I've had the opposite experience, I'm dominating the world without even starting a war through shrewd diplomacy and have tons of money to spend and a large surplus of food. Sounds like your campaign was a mixture of bad luck and mistakes, they didn't change Carthage at all with the last patch as far as I know.

hmm that is strange, in terms of building, i just went with buildings that will give me food boost early on and income with some training but it was funny as some times at end of turn i had like minus 27 food them on the next turn i would be +2? very odd.
