Favorite DeI Barbarian Faction?

Hey guys,

I'm just curious what your thoughts are regarding the main three Barbarian factions. I've wanted to play a Barbarian campaign for a long time, and I need a casual faction to play throughout my summer in between class and work. DeI has shown the Barbarians some love, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Do you prefer the Suebi, Iceni, or Arverni, and why?

The Suebi look pretty appealing with their berserkers and guerrilla longbows. They also have some pretty strong regular infantry.

The Iceni have chariots and those sweet looking longsword masters. Biggest downside to these guys for me is the Jersey Shore blowout haircuts... and the one helmet that reminds me of Tit-Head from Little Nicky...

Admittedly like the worst movie of all time.

The Arverni seem to have the strongest cavalry of the three, and they also have a really strong spear unit.

Unit caps for each army lend well to balancing, so I appreciate that.

So far I've been playing as the Suebi and loving it. I've got supreme military strength from the start compared with my starting enemy, the Boii, but food is short, and public order is lacking in the quickly captured Boii capital. I like the feel of their units as well. High charge factor.

i think little nicky was fracking funny.

i play suebi on legendary its epic, just won a siege at 59:20. and no i usually don't have a problem with the ai and besieging me they will kill me if they can, they could have used the ladders for a second attack front if they had i would have lost at 20 min.

suebi although i like the avernii as well...but the suebi dei units are just awesome to the max

Weirdly I disagree about the Seubi, club and spear inf types are all the same really for all there different names, and not much else for the difficult early years. But that's how it should be for this time period.

by turn 10 you can have heavy sword infantry. and merc longbow men.

not actualy sure what their strong points are in DEI. never played mutch of the barbs in general. though i liked the avernii horses in vanilla just after release
looking at the units i am not sure why the avernii or considered a cavalry faction though, the suebi and iceni have just as leathal cavalry as them.

can anyone explain the major differences between them are in DEI? might actualy like a barb playtrough soon

I've gone through the stat sheets and compiled a small list of strengths and weaknesses.

ARVERNI
Strengths
-Best cavalry charge
-Warhounds
-Guerrilla shortbows
-Strong late spear units (1 phalanx)
-Several shield wall units
-Several naked warriors (scare, strong charge)
-Strong early units

Weaknesses
-Naked warriors have poor armor
-No missile cavalry
-No chariots
-No pikes

SUEBI
Strengths
-Berserkers
-Best infantry charge
-Many infantry units can use wedge formation (improved charge)
-Pikes
-Guerrilla longbows, cavalry, and spears

Weaknesses
-Many early club units (relatively poor defense)
-No dogs
-No chariots
-Probably the worst cavalry
-No chanting troops (druids)

ICENI
Strengths
-Chariots
-Two-handed sword masters
-Highest cavalry base stats (prolonged combat)
-Best slingers
-Guerrilla cavalry and sword infantry
-Largest unit selection

Weaknesses
-Poor missile troops
-No dogs
-No pikes

As for why the other barbarian factions aren't included, this was originally posted to help me sort through and decide which faction to play. If I could edit the poll, I'd include the others as well...

I only played a little bit with the Iceni, but I liked how their position allows me to take my time and expand on my own terms, unlike the Suebi or even the Arveni. Also, despite having less unit varyety on the start than the germans, the Iceni have some awesome units (plus the best slingers).
