Default The Great Naming Project. Warning: Nerdiness Alert!!!

Just to pass the time until we start, and because I'm going a bit stir-crazy in between job applications and writing my dissertation, I thought it might be fun to make a complete list of the provinces and which House they belong to. I figure if we can complete this then the mods can add it to the High Lordships and Regions part of the rules. If you like the work get involved, maybe drop some rep, if not then just go about your business no need to pick a fight here!

Some notices, the lands will be based on the High Lordship system and so might not correspond with the books directly. There are many named Houses in the books that do not necessarily have seats/territories assigned to them so we will have to assign a territory. (Lore-fiends don't get upset, we're doing this for fun, and so that everyone can get an idea who their vassals are/the identity of the Lord whose castle they are about to crush)! I figure we can go region by region and use this thread to discuss/share ideas for where to place each House. Hopefully some of you can help to fill in the blanks. All information is taken from Westeros.org

Let's start at the top and work our way down, beginning with The North. I'll keep this post updated with a finalised list as we finish each region.

Default Re: The Great Naming Project. Warning: Nerdiness Alert!!!

Okay so just my ideas/correction for now: Just a bit of nitpicking its House Tallhart not Tallheart. Anyways I think that any House that worships the Seven should serve as an ideal vassal for House Manderly, perhaps assigning House Whitehill to Whiteford and Wells to Ethering. The most influential Mountains Clans if I remember correctly are Flint, Wull and Norrey (Flint because of their keep and Wull and Norrey because they joined Robb's march south) so I'd say Flint for High Lord and the other four provinces to be divided among Wull, Norrey, Harclay and Liddle (The other two with named members). Of the Crannogmen I think House Marsh should be given importance, as of Bowen Marsh the others we might pick at random. Perhaps the last province sworn to Winterfell could be given to the Condons? I say this because the other two, Cassel and Poole, seem more like servants of the Starks then lords in their own right. The Houses sworn to the Glovers are just a matter of picking a province. Great idea for a thread!

Correction made. Good spot! I agree about the Seven worshippers and the locations. As for Cassel etc. they have arms (and we might struggle to fill all the provinces otherwise ). I think you have some good idea about the mountain clans too.

Thats true, House Condon however also has arms in the wiki, althought I am not sure if they are canon or not

A very nice idea Ganb. When you actually finish a region, send me the full list in a PM as its guaranteed that I get something wrong if I try to dig through this thread myself. Also for formatting, I would bold the provinces, not the House as the House text would be a lot more.

    ====================

Add Bear Island as High Lordship of its own but with no vassals.

    Silvereed - House Fenn
    Greycrann - House Blackmyre
    Churwell - House Greengood

    Fever - House Marsh

The two Seven Faith assasl can fill in the remaining two Manderly vassals

Good shout. I'll have a play with the formatting. I see we are of one mind about Marsh. They seem like a crannog House that maybe got a bit too "big" for The Neck and so left and were sworn to another House. And yeah, I'll do that with Bear Island. It's got levies etc. it just hasn't been listed.

Yeah. SO maybe we can go with your suggestion and assign Condon to King's Course? Cassel, Poole and Mollen we can add to any provinces that we don't manage to fill (probably out in The Rills or Karhold).

OK. Reformatted the list, I've also added in some titles for the High Lord Houses. Give them a look over see if you agree and make some suggestions for the ones I couldn't fill.

Titles are looking mighty good, perhaps the Glover one could be changed to "Masters of the Wolfswood" since they are a Masterly House instead of a lordly one. Anyway for a couple more suggestions: I venture to say that the Lonely Hills might be given to House Slate, as they are seen at Ramsay's wedding in Winterfell I always assumed them to be Bolton men. As for both the Karstark vassals I propose Houses Mollen, mostly because their Pine coat of arms fits the region (Althought that could go anywhere) and House Lightfoot because I believe they are the rulers there in the AGOT mod. Another suggestions would be establishing a Flints of Flint's Cliffs since anywhere named Flint seems to have a House Flint attached. Any of the other Houses might be used to fill remaining positions, except for the Crannogs and the Clans.

OK. The clans of The Wolfswood and The Mountains have been decided, as have the crannog Houses. House Slate has been assigned to the last Bolton spot (thanks Jacb) and House Condon has been assigned to King's Course. I think the High Lord title have been finished too. I've updated the o.p. with the Houses that remain to be assigned. Have a look through and see if you agree/disagree with HB's and jacb's suggestions immediately above this post.

I agree with HB suggestions, also maybe we could fill the last positions by how cool the name sounds or something. In my opinion to further complement:

    Rills -
    House Ryswell of The Rills.
    - Blazewater -
    House Watermen
    - Stoney Shore -
    House Moss
    - Blue Hills -
    House Long
    - Sea Dragon Point -
    House Holt
    - Withered Heath -
    House Ironsmith

    Flint's Finger -
House Flint of Flint's Finger. High Lords of The Saltspear.
    - Flint Cliffs –
    House Flint of Flint’s Cliff
    - Cape Kraken -
    House Peat

Hornwood - House Hornwood of Hornwood. High Lords of The Broken Branch.
    - Ramsgate -
    House Ashwood
    - Widow's Watch -
    House Flint of Widow's Watch

Karhold - House Karstark of Karhold. High Lords of The Grey Cliffs.
    - Weeping Bay -
    House Lightfoot
    - Eastmelt
    - House Mollen

Last Hearth - House Umber of Last Hearth. High Lords of The Last River.
    - Seal Shore-
    Clan Knott
    - Last River -
    Clan Burley
    - Aylesvale -
    House Lake of Long Lake.

You might notice I used two mountains clans to represent the missing Houses sworn to the Umbers, this is because of the lack of named Houses remembering and their proximity to the actual Clans the same thing can be said for Cape Kraken and the Crannog House. Anyway, these Houses maybe changed to the Pooles/ Cassels however I personally see both of them as directly sworn to the Starks and landless.

I think the North is mostly done with only a few spots remaining that we can easily fill in with a random House as I doubt that we will be able to fill all of the spots with a lore one.

OK. I think I've finalised The North. Have a look through and see what you think. Once we're happy I'll PM it to HB and get the list up for The Riverlands.

The North is looking fine but didn't we settle for Flint of Flint of Flint's Cliff? Also Jok some corrections: The rulers of Saltpans are House Cox (http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/House_Cox), and since House Hawick is canon they might get a new province.

I dunno. I moved some Houses around becasue we already have so many Flints in The North and it seemed a shame to add a made-up House when there were some canon one left over! If you guys really want them in I can always switch some things about again.

And Hawick/Cox is one of the things we need to straighten out for The Riverlands.

Kind of. But point out where you have put the canon Houses and where you have put the Houses that are just filling a space. I'll copy-paste this into the O.P. and have a tinker with the format.
