For starting generals, go to descr_start in the folder data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder. Find the general in question & replace the first line in the general's unit section with the unit you want.

For the rest, in export_descr_unit, the first unit from the top that has the "general_unit" attribute, is the default bodyguard for that faction. Give this attribute to whichever unit you wish & change the order. Now all generals will have that unit as a bodyguard. You can also make a custom BG unit for Blood Dragons if you wish.

Remember to make back-ups of any file you change!!

No, there's no 'priority' for the units.

If you've specified one specific unit as your faction's BG, all generals through coming of Age events or adoption will have that unit as BG.
Recruitable generals & spawned generals can have a different unit as BG. You have to change campaign_script, EDB & EDU.
Starting generals can have different units as BG. For them, you have to change descr_strat.

It is possible to mod files so that any children present during the game's start will have a BG of your liking but those results aren't always good.

For example, if I have Edward the Black Prince, his brother Edmund, his father King Edward & his infant son Richard. Default BG is English Knights.

So, in absence of any scripts, all of them & any future new generals will have English Knight BGs.
If you change default BG in EDU to, say, Foot Knights, all will have Foot Knight BGs.
By changing descr_strat, you can give different bodyguards to the Edwards & Edmund but Richard & new generals like, say, John of Gaunt, will have English Knight BGs.
If you change EDB, you can have recruitable generals & you can give them whatever BG you wish.

    Hope this helps.

PS- Do note that simply setting Blood Dragons as BG will not work perfectly. BG strength depends on the character's authority. So for non-FL or FH generals, the BG will start out with a full complement of 60-70 guys but won't replenish beyond 30-40.
