just animation as far as i know. thats why good shock cav is overall better then melle cav..:/

Separate stats for a secondary melee weapon are not currently possible. Pike and shock cavalry units have sword attachments/animations, but they're still considered to be wielding pikes/lances while visually using their swords.
All melee units have only one value for close combat, only separate ones are for ranged combat. That is why for example phalanx units have the same anti cav value both for pikes and swords.

can you ask per script which wapon is used? if so, an ability like stamina switched by script could be an option.
Do not know. Stamina script only does that you can see the stamina of the unit, but buton does not do anything. Plus not sure how AI would handle it.

what a pitty, Rome 1 had secondary cav weapons and we had some cavs with lower charges but AP Secondary weapons like axes/maces and you actually used them for different purposes =\
plus cataphracts switching to axes that still doing 0 ap dmg and +20 bonus to large is ... lol =\
