    Default Frequent CTDs

    Hello,

I have recently installed this mod (v6) and I must say it is an excellent mod so far. I actually would really enjoy playing it if I wasn't getting CTDs all the time. They happen randomly, at the start of battles, or on the campaign map, usually when I press the end turn button, too many to list almost. Just wondering if this happens to anyone else or just me? I have played plenty of other mods and never had this problem before. Any suggestions?

Silly question perhaps, but do you have a clean BI 1.6 installed?

I also get the random CTD here and there, but for most of the time they don't seem to be "fatal" ( meaning that if you reload the game they don't appear again ).

Yes I do. My CTDs are so frequent that I am now giving up trying to play the mod. It is a pitty because I really liked what I saw, it's just that it's so very annoying trying to play like that....

Arghhgh mine never works, the only faction that does manage to load on the campaign map is the Sassanids and even they crash after like 4 turns like Speiz_Bankurt says... the other factions completely CTD once the loading bar has loaded and the campaign map loads.

My version is IBFD 6, I downloaded and installed the quickfix 6.05 and it didn't make a difference. I also downloaded the strat models revert thing and that didn't either, when I put in show_err it doesn't show an error at all when I quit or it CTDs. My Rome version is 1.5 and BI version is 1.6 (Gold Edition), I dunno what's wrong with it... maybe I missed something?

But it's a great mod by the way, I enjoy playing as the sassanids.

I followed all the instructions to the letter, I am certain everything is installed the way it should be. My system is okey too, have been playing this game and many mods for a long time and never had ctd issues this bad.

I can play the game for a while, sometimes even for half an hour (that's why I know this is a good mod), before it starts having problems. I usually give up because it is really annoying almost winning a battle or ending a turn and getting a ctd. I wish there was a fix, because I am just looking around to see what other mod is half decent to play that I haven't played yet but there aren't many..

ive had a good number of turns but i believe a certain unti is causing this to appear when i get ready for battle.

Ramon Gonzales, thanks for your response. But what do you mean a save file? A save game? And how do I upload? Maybe easier if I email it to you. BTW I reinstalled everything to see if it works better (couldn't find a better mod).

I've played for hours with different campaigns and don't think I've had a ctd yet. For me this is one of the most stable mods I've played.

    No crash with RTR, never.

My game is also frequently crashing. And yes, I did install a CLEAN 1.6 version on, and installed the 6.05 quickfix. The Western Roman Empire crashed on me when I tried to end turn, and the Constantini Empire crashed on me just for trying to select it!!

I've also taken notice of the Conan the Barbarian tracks used for teh game

and RTR never crashes on me ever

can u try enabling 32 bit graphics, some ppl have reported remarkable results w/ this. However, it seems there is a system incompability somehow, and am afraid I do not know what is causing it. if it's graphics related then reverting back to BI strat skins should fix that.

My comp is ALWAYS with 32 bit color graphics. As for strat, I don't know. Could it still be strat graphics if the campaign map still loads and shows the new strat models, but crashes when I end turn?

I tried the revert to CA models, but the game just crashed trying to load the Main Campaign, so I reverted back. It lets me on the strat map, but it crashes just as I end turn and it becomes the Visigoths' turn.

I went into preferences and changed the 32BITUI thing from FALSE to TRUE. Still crashes. Campaign game is unplayable

just as a test - try to play campaign without running IBFD script.Simply ignore adviser and try end of the turn

What happens if I don't enable script? What does script even do anyway aside from kill faction leader for some unknown and unnecessary reason?

    ******************

Why? What exactly does the script do that would cause my game to constantly crash? All that the script seems to do is randomly kill off the faction leader for no apparent reason... is it a 4turns per year script? Because the 4tpy script in SPQR 6.2 worked perfectly on my game when I used it

Then what's the use of playing without a script if I'm spending the effort into downloading this mod, and you all are spending the effort in building it?
Basically we are trying to find the cause for CTD's and this is a part of the process of finding errors and bugs.

Is there some specific reason as to why these crashes are occuring, or is it just "one of those random bugs" that some people may encounter, and isn't really solvable?
We have been asking ourselves those questions for quite sometimes.Like Ramon said earlier: there might be not one but several reasons why some ppl have experinced difficulties.CA never released debugging tool and none of us here posses any knowledge of Microsoft VS studio to properly look through reports generated upon RTW CTD's.

    Sorry for double post

OK just to make sure I have tried the latest version of mod available to public once again:with newly installed Win XP pro + RTW + RTWBI + patch 1.6 + IBFD 6.0 + plus all updates (current public version 6.05).WRR campaign (with and without scripts running) loads ok, tried until 415 AD no problems.Same goes for WRE - got as far as 418 AD without any problems (apart from running out of cash )

well since it's a bug section I'll add something as well.

Rio's IB mod - made a new clean install just to be sure, removed the two files as said in the instructions and....getting constant CTD when I want to start a campaign, well I get it the moment I selected "Main campaign" or select the Huns campaign and click "next" or something like that, keep getting it all the time, any idea?

    cheers

ok, just went into historical battles to see if those work and only badon hill doesn't crash, got a CTD as soon as I forwarded into battle of Chalons.

Just to make everything clear, it's the v1 full build, the one weighting around 288 mbs.
