- Only one AAR per person

- The competition is open for a month, followed by a one week, multi-poll vote.
- If there are less than 5 nominations, the competition is extended for another month.
- Usually authors nominate their own work. If you would like to nominate somebody else's work, please ask for the author's approval first (or encourage the author to nominate the AAR)!]

Advertisement Rules

Advertising is allowed in the official advertising board and in AAR threads. Any other kind of direct advertising to advocate nominees is prohibited. Those who breach this rule shall be disqualified for 3 months.

Asking for votes is not allowed and will result in an immediate disqualification and ban of 3 months from the Competition forums.

The competition manager will take whatever steps necessary to insure the integrity of the competition.

This is a tale of Rome and Carthage, two cities alike in dignity, but destined by Hannibal’s own oath to clash violently at Saguntum by order of Marhabal, a clash that would leave only one of them intact after the documented battle at Pontus Marmora. It is also the tale of Publius Cornelius Scipio, both the father and the proud son that would become a great general and Tribune, eventually Consul.

Of the other men of the struggle, villainous Caesonius Pulvillus, Appius Marcus Cornicen, the brothers Dentatus and Scaurus, and other men such as noble Albus who had had their triumphs, they are included in this tale of the Second Punic War. There would not be a third. Indeed this struggle can be divided into acts, all greater parts of a single war, a war between Carthage and Rome.

Within these acts, would be the Corsican and Sardinian war. The invasion of Sicily and Italy by Carthaginian Libyans. The Iberian civil war, with combatants and participants loyal to both sides rising and falling. The pacification of Transalpine and Cisalpine Gaul, from Genua and Pisae to Emporae and Lugdunum. And the final act, the conquest of Africa and Numidia, which would leave Carthage’s greatest generals dead, their cities occupied, and their Republic in tatters.

With no time left to think, Liu spun his body around and slammed the tip of the sword into the wooden deck. Affirming that it was firmly wedged into the floor, he clutched the slippery grip with wet and cold fingers as the ship began to tilt further and further to one side. The giant waves were now lapping over the eastern edge of the vessel, sending water coursing down the slanted deck and further executing the struggling soldiers on board. More and more men were sliding down the near vertical incline, finding themselves in the dark depths looming ever so despairingly below. As another man beside him suffered such a fate, Liu brought his free hand to his face in a vain attempt to wipe the blood and water from his eyes. His hand, despite the thick leather glove it bore, was equally soaked and the motion was a futile one.

However, as he struggled against the raging sea, his blurry eyes caught a hint a colour before him. Instinctively, Liu reached out with his free hand and grabbed at it. His slippery fingers latched onto a thin fabric and in return, two hands grasped at his arm. Although he could barely see, Liu managed to discern the drowned visage of Fa Huang, who now clung to him for dear life. The adjutant had abandoned his heavy coat and wore only his colourful administrator’s robes – perhaps in an effort to stave off the powerful waves that coursed over the sinking vessel. If that had been his plan, then it had certainly worked. Liu had imagined that the feeble Fa would have been the first to fall overboard, but perhaps the administrator was wilier that Liu had given him credit.

Although Liu was at a loss to see, he could hear the adjutant screaming in his ear. As the storm continued its assault, Fa’s words were indistinguishable. In such a predicament however, Liu concluded that they didn’t really matter either way. With Fa clinging to his body like a sickly child, Liu clung desperately to the sword he had implanted in the rotten woodwork. The vessel was inches now away from capsizing and the pair of them were hanging down across the slanted deck. Fortunately for them both, Fa weighed little more than a small farm animal and Liu had no trouble in supporting both of their weight. However, it would all be for naught if the ship overturned and they found themselves at the mercy of the seas beneath.

The ship gave a sickening lurch and Liu felt the boat strain under the weight of the waves. The howling wind echoed through the air, matched in volume it seemed to Liu by the groaning of the capsizing ship. Relentless, the rain continued its onslaught, threatening to wash yet more of them away. Then, Liu felt his body swing violently away from the ship as another wave smashed against the exposed underbelly. Clinging to the grip of the sword with all his might, Liu fought for his survival as he found himself suspended in mid-air. Then, with one final groan, as if an aged man finally succumbing to illness, the boat finally gave way. A shadow swept over Liu and Fa and the boat began its final descent into the sea.

Liu looked on in horror as he felt the pair of them slowly fall into the seas below. All his military acumen was for naught as he found himself at the mercy of gravity. The shadow of the boat loomed larger above them, as the seas below inched nearer and nearer. Panicked and with nothing left to lose, Liu made a snap decision. In the final moments, Liu eased his grip on the sword, letting his fingers slowly retract from its handle. Then they fell into the seas below.

EDIT: Unless you CAN'T train Gauls when you're this far away from Gaul. I don't know the recruitment system too well as I haven't played Extended Cultures yet.

I really thought it was going to be the typical "Is this thread still alive" post, but this was so awesome you made me get my ethernet cable to be able to load the pictures (internet is kinda crappy right now). But wow, this is so friggin' awesome! I can't say anything else but awesome!

In all honesty I deserve Citezenship just for this AAR, but you know apparently thats not enough.

As you can see, this AAR has a cult following that stretches into all area's of the TWC it's a shame for it not to win the MAARC L

Ten years has passed since the coronation of Flavius Claudius lulianus. Much blood has been shed, old wounds torn open and pain and suffering through out the years but the Emperor has slowly but surely begun patching the Empire back to its whole entity again. Still, whilst the dead Constantius II is but a vague memory of a time that most don't remember, some others still revere his name and still resist the Pagan, even as he pushes further east and more lands incorporated back into the Imperium. lulianus stands at the Cilician Gates with his allies, with Antioch looming closer and awaiting vital reinforcement when news arrives from Constantinople of the news that his dear old friend Maximianus is dying. His woes are further compounded when the Goths attack across the Danuvius once more in direct violation of the treaty signed and there are signs that all is not well in Frankia...and that a high ranking general is not as reliable as supposed. The Emperor must make some hard decisions and steel himself to hard outcomes, ones that would be more in keeping with his dead nemesis and not his philosophical, even handed temperament...

"In the Holy Lands", a Medieval II Total War AAR with Stainless Steel 6.4 mod follows the Crusader States faction in the late campaign. Written by the acclaimed Strengelicher, recently awarded with the Writer's Study Competition Bronze Medal, this AAR has not been updated for quite a while. But verrry soon the readers shall get to know how the story continues...

We left off after King Jean - long believed lost forever after taking his men westwards against the Fatimid enemy - has reappeared and reconquered Jerusalem. A glimmer of hope, but the loss of Baudouin weighs heavily on our small band of friends, and the small kingdom ist still hard pressed on all sides.

Soon, an unexpected ally will arrive. Soon, someone important will die in battle. Soon, someone will challenge the crown's authority and be punished. Soon, someone will become a new beacon of Christianity...
