Icon5 Is there any way to keep our veteran units and not disbanding them to recruit more experienced units ?

    Hi .

I don't know if you have noticed it or haven't but this is really ridiculous that we disband our veterans that have fought battles for years to recruit more experienced units because of generals' abilities .

So , where is the experience they gained in fighting dozens of difficult battles ?

And where did those young new recruits gain their experience that made them stronger and better than real veterans ?

I'll be thankful if a member of DEI team informs us whether they have a plan , solution for this .

The general buff to recruitment is quite OP its true, maybe remove it and replace it with something else?

Some skills are too OP if we combine them with buildings or other generals but this one here is OP alone. +3 ranks on every kind of units at lvl 3
This + the XP training of champions which can be seen as ridiculous.
Both those things may have been taken care of in the next 0.9 though.

I think removing this skill of generals is better .

It can be better if the number of battles units have fought or the army traditions affect unit experience .

For example , A unit in an experienced army that has fought for years and is somehow the main army of a faction gains experience faster than other armies . ( Adding for example + 5% speed to unit experience rate for every level an army gains might be useful )

I have played Rome 2 for several hundred hours but haven't seen 1 main unit reaching silver levels ( leave gold ones aside ) by fighting in battles . They always lose level when they lose a lot of men which is normal and realistic but if we find a way to let veteran units gain experience faster , then it will be possible to see them reaching higher levels that can also make them more valuable .

Something like this might help :

Level 1 army : 100% gaining experience rate

    Level 2 : 105 % or 110%

    Level 3 : 115 % or 120 %

    and so on ...

Interesting proposition. Taking it one step further, you could actually overhaul the hole 'free XP' ability from generals with this concept, i.e.: instead of having new recruits with chevrons right off the bat, have the XP gain rate boosted for your existing troops in that army

Indeed much better, because as SOOR3NA said its extremely hard or downright impossible to level up units, but its extremely easy to use buildings and skills and ancillaries to avoid having to level them altogether.

+1 for changing general skill to increased experience rate.

On a side note, is it possible to remove the experience cap? I'd like to see rank 20-30 veterans made possible. Would require making new sprites and attaching them to an exp value table, so I can see how there may be too many hard coded components. Maybe an artificial fix you could do is limiting the building bonuses to +1, along with general skill only giving better exp rate only (so max level on recruitment would be 5-6, then making each rank provide more benefits, with each rank needing more exp after recruitment needed per level.

I agree it's quite ridiculous. In my current Roman campaign, through a combination of training buildings, ancillaries and traits, I am able to recruit fresh legionaries that are maxed out on XP, while also getting a 20% bonus on both melee attack and defense. It's madness, I tell you, MADNESS!!

If by that you mean that no one's forcing me to use all these perks then you're correct, of course. The thing is, if the game offers me all these treats I just CAN'T pass on them, regardless of how gamey it is. Call it weakness of character or whatever, but it is what it is.
