Icon5 3 questions on generals and 1 on squalor (SS 6.4)

    Hi Guys,

    Hope these aren't dumb questions:

    - How do you get command stars for generals? My generals never seem to start with any and I cannot get them above 3. Any tips would be appreciated. Does killing rebels help?

    - How do you grow your bodyguard unit? AI bodyguards always seem to be much larger than mine.

    - How do you get more chivalry points for your generals?

    - Is there an easy way to mod squalor in the game text files? I want to tweak it down a bit.

    Thanks and cheers! Germanicus75

Easiest way to get stars for your generals is to win battles with them.
For chivalry, release hostages after battles.
Your bodyguard and modding squalor Im not sure about.
Honest and truly, I AM Robin Hood!

    Thanks.

I win plenty of battles but my generals don't usually star-up. Why not?

Generally you have to win battles that you arent expected to win for your command to increase noticeably. For instance you attack a much larger army and the odds are 2-1 against you.

Go on Crusades for huge boosts in chivalry and command for your generals.

Command stars: While a general comes of age, check whether he has the "Militarily minded" trait. This trait makes him gain command stars more quickly, so make him a general for the field. When he comes of age, immediately move him to a castle-type settlement, as big as possible and with the barracks building line as developped as possible. Leave him there until he is about 20. Then make him join a field army with a high command general and do battle. When he has cbecome proficient, give him his own field army. As has been said already, win battles whose odds are against the you. Heroic victories are what you want to boost your command. What your general actually does in the battle also has an effect - so let him make enemy contact, preferably a frontal cavalry assault before other units have started to fight. A good opportunity to boost command are rebels, as they are fairly weak. Take down small rebel armies with only your general unit to start training him (make sure the odds are against you), then move on to larger battles. By the way - try to avoid defensive battles in settlements, if possible, attack armies camping outside the settlement before they lay siege. Some command stars are conveyed by ancillaries. If you want to boost a certain general, give him ancillaries others have.

Bodyguard units cannot be grown save by modding. Your faction leader has a fairly big bodyguard unit, all others are smaller. They are supposed to this small for balancing reasons, as they are very strong.

Chivalry can be gained like this: a maximum of 4 chivalry icons can be gained by governing a city with taxes set to very low. Takes a while though. Another maximum of 4 can be gained from releasing prisoners and sparing settlements ("occupy") after battles. More can be gained from heroic deeds in battle (bravery etc.). For example, NOT chasing down routing units. Spending time in castle type settlements may also gain one or the other chivalry icon. And, again: ancillaries. So swap them between your generals.

I advise you to NOT start modding squalor, it is likely to destabilize the balance of the game. Take up the challenge and try to build the citadel/huge city yourself!
