Don't they have enough money already?

It wouldn't even bother me that much if Windows wasn't that boodly expensive to start with.
$300 of an OS? that's insane!
Given the large number of copies they sell it shouldn't be costing that much.

I would prefer Linux anyways, if it weren't for the fact that I can't play my favourite games from Linux.
I think I'll end up using Windows XP for games, and Linux for work.
Until the DirectX 10 thing is going to prevent me from doing that too.
    AAAARGHH!!!! I hate monopolies!

Somebody PLEASE make a hack that wil allow people to play DirectX 10 games from Linux.

I agree. To Microsoft's HQ's, bring your pitch forks and your tourches. Tonight we eat assorted Windows products. :tooth:

As far as I know, DX10 will only be able to be used on Vista. Something that has to do with how the two "work togethor" or some other crap like that.

I dont mind having to pay for a new OS, but to have to pat for another copy just for upgrading my machine thats bull****.

Yes, I'm sure it's just because Vista and DX10 "work together".

But not in a technological way, I see no reason why a graphics API should be platform specific. (OpenGL seems to work fine on all platforms)

I think Microsoft means it in a purely marketing way: it "works" to sell themtogether.
Why give DX10 to XP users if you can also force them to buy Vista?

    So far.....

It's going to depend on how the market develops.
If 50% of games including Rome2:Total War become "DX10 only" then I think you wil feel different.

My biggest hope is that DX10 doesn't catch on with the gaming industry.
Maybe they will switch to OpenGL so they can reach a broader (XP and Vista) audience?
    I realy hope so.

    ... Why?

This may stop hackers a little bit, but all Microsoft is doing is committing suicide.

If you have an upgrade of your motherboard or anything else that will cause the operating system to think that it is a new computer you have to buy a new copy of Vista.

Anyone want to start a Vista Boycott club ?

Don't see how they could possibly do this. It's unconceivable. Woops, video card fried. Ram died. New operating system!
