Generally I think the United States is opposed to Radical Islam and Slave Trafficking. If it costs us a few dollars to save a few hundred girls from sex slavery which funds Jihad that's probably good.

The question should be address to the citizens of US, but if you are asking the rest of the world, well we just think you are a powerful, easy to manipulate Great Power to do our bidding. If World Police is another empty title that fulfill the goal to pull more Mericans die for our interest, why not?

Apparently the UK has sent assistance to Nigeria as well. A reporter on Sky News asked the Foreign Secretary what assistance the UK had said and the reply was "practical assistance". When asked what this meant the Foreign Secretary again replied "Best not comment any further."

Pretty safe to assume then that some guys from Hereford are on the way.

Geo-strategically, Boko Haram have just raised their profile sufficiently, and embarrassed the Nigerian government enough, that they get the honour of being targetted by the War on Terror players.

While if two hundred American schoolgirls would get kidnapped and shipped to some polygamous community to be sold off as wives would create outrage, it didn't really in the middle of Africa.

From what I hear, the Nigerian government had planned to batten down the hatches and ride out this incident until the uproar subsided, but the additional kidnapping would indicate that they may eventually run out of schoolgirls in northern Nigeria.

I think this may be a harbinger of the collapse of the current regime.

America sort of has been doing what you're suggesting, too, considering the Navy Seals sniping Somali pirates to save hostages, etc. etc.

Also, glad to see the Brits have thrown their hat into the ring. Keep in mind though, folks, this is a pretty limited involvement, just a small number of personnel to help the Nigerian army as the article purports. Anything larger would be overkill, I think.
