    Default Seleukid Hellenic Kataphraktoi Reforms (EB I version 1.2)

    Hello guys , i know this question has been asked again and again in ages past and i'm sorry to ask it again , but how do you get the Hellenic Cataphracts ?
    i actually know that you need to be at least in 253 BC and two FMs need to lose two ''large battles'' against a Faction that use Cats , that their army must at least comport 10 % cavalry and that you're FM must lose 20 % of he's bodyguards to trigger the event and get the ''Intrigued By Cataphracts Trait'' , but i lost countless of battles with countless of Generals who send ten thousands of poor Pandotapoi to their death against the Pahlava but still i cant get that god damn trait , i even tried to get it with the give_trait but the engine can't find the Family Members , i don't realy need the Cavalry since the Hetaroi are way better but i want to use the Thoratikai Agryraspidai in my seleukid game . .

    I've never played with Seleukids so I can't advise on how to get the Cataphract reforms. You said you tried to use the give_trait console command. What is the general's name, the one that you're trying to apply this trait to? Finding the right in-game name for your specific FM is an art by itself.

    Thorakitai Argyraspidai? No such unit exists, at least to my knowledge, and I doubt the Cataphract reforms would enable them. If you are refering to the Thorakitai Agematos Basilikou, I believe these guys can be trained if you build a Level 5 Native Barrracks in Syria, Babilonia or Mesopotamia.

    Yep i'm talking about thoses dudes , i called them Thorakitai Agryraspidai because they have Silver Shields , anyway their name is present in the LVL 5 Barrack recrutement queue (along with the Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi i even bribed some Bactrian Cats to see if the refrom occurs but nope ) but i can't train them , i need to complete the reform to unlock both (which is sad)

    I tried the cheat on Alexandros Syriakos and Theodoros Syriakos when they were alive but now i'm in 218 BC and they are dead so i tried it again on ''Lagoras Philadelphos'' and ''Phanias Syriakos'' i've chosen them because they have simple names unlike the numerous triple named one's

    Actually. When you click the unit you are talking about, they say "thorakitai Argyraspidai". So i think it is pretty correct to call them that.

    Yep, i'm talking about those guys and they are present with the Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi in the recrutement queue on the LVL 5 homeland barrack but i can't train them because both needs the Cats reform.

    Aha. That part I missed; like I said, I never played Seleukids before.

    I had the same issue, the trait not coming after many lost battles. So I found the file with EB script and changed the conditions there. Instead of the original complex conditions that are difficult to achieve in game I just commented out some of these conditions. So that it said something like "the year is at least 253" and "AS must lose any battle against Pahlava". Then it worked at once. For finding the file, open Windows Explorer and search for the phrase "impressedbycats" or what it is exactly. Search within the file again and you find the if-condition.

    can someone please give me the name of the file where's reforms conditions are written , i've seen the EBBS_Script where i've found this but i dont know if i have to modify it or no , some advices guys ?

    Sorry, I have not been here for a while. But you located the correct file and also correct trigger in the file on your own. If you want to make seleucid cataphract reform easier, the only thing needed is to comment out any condition in the trigger that you do not want. See the semi-colon at the beginning of the line with "; and NumEnemiesInBattle > 250"? Simply put a semicolon at the beginning of any line you do not want.

    This is what I did back then:

    Now the trigger basically says: give the trait BeatenByCats whenever the AS general lose a battle against Pahlava, Baktria or Armenia after 253 BC. The rest of the reforms will follow as before.

    thanks for your help i added a '';'' to the lines you've montioned but now when i load my saved game or try to start a new AS campaign , the game crashes so i'm gonna ininstal then instal it again then i'll try again i'll see what happens next

    No uninstall / re-install is necessary. I just tried to modify this file as described above for myself again and it works without any problem. That means you probably changed something else in the file as well and that is why it crashes now. It might be just a single character, who knows. Hopefully you backed up your original file so that you can just return to it. And try again.

    if i've understood , the '';'' negate any conditions right ? so maybe he's negating the '' and numEnemiesInBattle > 250 '' that's why the trait don't pop when i go battles because everytime all the others conditions are met but the trait never pops so if i kick the ; montioned above maybe i'll work ?

    I am no expert in modding EB but I do not think you understand the meaning of ";" character correctly. In my understanding, the ";" character does not negate the following condition, rather it tells the computer to not apply the condition following on the same lne. The trait does not show up because all these conditions are so numerous and complex that when put together rarely any battle passes the test. Simplify.

    Yep, but anyway it's hopeless to get them so i'll propably stop playing the Seleukids anyway and move to Bactria or Carthies , thoses reforms are propably buggy or whatever in 1.2 since i've met all the conditions several times without getting the ''intrigued by cats trait'' even once.

    Give the trait to more than 2 generals, then go to their traits list and check that the traits are there.
    It will take another 5 years for the reforms to kick in.

    The elite spearmen that you are looking do not make that much of a difference, they will be a logistical pain. The only situation you should use them is when you want to create a bridgehead where the quality is more importanta than quantity. In any other case, it's probably better to just continue recruiting whatever medium spearmen you have, with better AoR.
