Default The Office of the Lord Admiral of the Empire

Lord Admiral of the Empire - The holder of this position is in overall command of any Imperial forces about the Emperor’s business. In times of general war or insurrection, all Wardens, and thus all local forces, are subordinated to him in an act known as the War Provision. The last time this happened was during the Reptile War, with an attempt to activate the War Provision during the Great Slave Revolt being vehemently opposed by the Slave Lords, who did not want to be seen as needing outside help to rule their own slaves, and thus it was never activated. (Powers: Ship/Troop hire cost -25%, Imperial Ship/Troop upkeep costs -25% [Both do not apply to personal ships/troops owned by his House, only ships/troops in service to the Emperor])

    Current Lord Admiral: Aetius Altair

The Prince is allowed into the room where he finds Lord Aetius sitting at his desk, enjoying a glass of finest Capellan Brandy.

"Ah, Prince Devriendt. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? I must say, I was surprised of you giving me your vote. Do you care for glass? Best brandy in the Core Worlds."

Just one glass, we'll need our heads to be clear. It seems this election has just gotten more interesting

The Prince smiles and takes a sit.

I'm sorry I have to be so direct, but time is of the essence here: What are your plans, Lord Admiral? I know you supported the First Minister but it is possible to change your vote

"It has indeed." said Lord Aetius before pouring and handing Prince Devriendt the glass of brandy.

"If you had asked me this question before today, then my answer would have been a definitive no, I would not have been likely to change my vote. Lord Balthasar is my brother-in-law after all and I am not the kind of person who refuses to support his own family just because he has a chance for a grasp of power."
said Lord Aetius before he paused for a moment.

"But it seems the situation has changed and I am unsure of what to do at the moment. May I ask you Prince Devriendt, why did you vote for me? We barely spoken to each other outside of the Assembly meetings."

Because I know you are a resolute man, and that is what the Empire requires now.

    He sips the brandy

I am sure Lord Ignatius is a great individual, very capable. But I don't think he has what it takes to take the reigns of the Empire in this day and age.

"You make a god argument Lord Devriendt. It's true that I am more resolute then Lord Ignatius is but I don't think a resolute man is what the Empire needs. We need someone who ensure the Empire's stability, someone who is not only willing to fight to ensure our stability but also tobarter and work things out diplomatically. Lord Ignatius meets that trait much more than I do." said Lord Aetius.

He took another from his glass of brandy and said
"I have much to think about Prince Devriendt. Even if I were to vote for myself, I do not think that I have the votes needed to win the election. Lord Ignatius has the support of the remainder of the Old Lords, the lone Technocrat Lord, and it seems a good portion of the Slave Lords support. If my math is correct, he needs just one or two more votes to get the necessary eight to win the election. Why should I challenge that and make an enemy out of my former ally?"

OoC: (To make this election a bit more fun and interesting, goddammit)

I would personally make sure you'd have at least seven votes, Lord Admiral. After that, well, I am sure we'll figure something out to get one extra vote and win the election. Besides, aren't you a bit hungry for glory, milord?

A message arrives from Balthasar's office, asking for the presence of his brother-in-law.

"Yes, but aren't we all hungry for glory Prince Devriendt? We wouldn't all choose to be Lords of the Empire if we all didn't have a little hunger for glory in our hearts." replied Lord Aetius with slight grin on his face.

"I will need a confirmation of my seven votes before I am willing to vote for myself. The last thing that the Empire needs is a stalemate that could drive our realm into chaos. When this recess is over and we reconvene, I shall wait until the end to cast my vote. If I have the necessary support by the end, then I will cast for myself. If I do not, then to Lord Ignatius my vote will lie. That is all that I can give you."

You are way too cunning Lord Admiral. But so shall it be, I guess

How in hell would he get seven votes? He had four assured and needed three more.
