    Fleet(750):

    Battleship:
    Battleship:
The 'Ebony Falcon' is a huge battleship, created upon Hungaras itself and designed to take the fight to the alien scum, it has served it's purpose and fought in several battles upon the front-line.
Behemoth of the space lanes, a massive ship with heavy armour and huge cannons. Capital Ship.
-- Cannot hit targets smaller than a Heavy Cruiser.
    -- Attack: 100 // Defence: 100 // Speed: 3

    Battlecruisers:
The space fleet of Gateway includes one Battlecruisers, which is decorated with the colours of the Smithine house, it is called 'Guard of the Gateway'. It has been slightly re-fitted to include the newest technocrat advances and is commanded by the finest the Pandoran Space Academy has to offer.
Ideal for beefing up patrols, raiding or fast response. Capital Ship.-- Attack: 70 // Defence: 30 // Speed: 6

    Advanced Cruisers:
Specially built for use in the space fleet by technocrat scientists these ships have been completely rebuilt, with far more automated systems and more efficient gunnery as well as movement systems. Named 'Not too Fast', and 'Limiting Factor' they have been at the forefront of many recent battles, employed alongside the marcher lords.
The result is a ship that is more accurate and harder to gain a target lock on.
    -- Attack: 70 // Defence: 70 // Speed: 5

    Light Cruisers:
The Fleet has twelve squadrons of Light Cruisers, with more armour than their destroyer counterparts they are normally used for hunting down and destroying Destroyer Squadrons.
The Light Cruiser is a smaller version of a Heavy Cruiser and is equipped with an array of smaller guns to fight other small vessels as well as torpedo tubes to attack larger ships.
    -- Attack: 15 // Defence: 25 // Speed: 7

    Destroyer Squadrons:
The fleet currently employs ten separate squadrons of destroyers, produced with far more weapons that armour they are designed to dart in and out before the enemy gets a chance to lock on, and destroy their ships.
These ships are very dangerous to poorly protected Capital Ships though are equally at risk against other predatory Destroyer or Light Cruiser Squadrons.

    System Information

    Planets:
    Atillica:
Atillica is the home of most citizens living in Gateway, a huge industrialised world dedicated to industry, production, and living. With huge enterprises set upon it and the most trade in any of the systems in the Southern Passage passing through every day, there are huge hubs of trade and large residential areas, housing citizens who work in under-paid jobs within the city, churning out heave armaments daily. The Smithine residence here is a large manor within the heart of the city, although it is rarely visited by them; normally only by the Justicar on official business.

One of the larger cities present upon the planet.

    Pantheon:
Pantheon is the pride of the Gateway system, a clean planet with almost no industry on, filled with schools of learning, and the houses of the richest citizens in the system. With the Pandoran Space and Military Academies both present here the brightest of the youth are sent here and picked out by the Legate of the Legion of Fire for service in the military. It is also host to several technological establishments, all who are constantly developing new technology for the good of Gateway. The Smithine residence here is a large, riverside manor, taking up a whole island. It is the most common abode for the lords, and they often entertain guests here.

    Hungaras:
Hungaras is the true power house of the system, this is where the ships are built and military based technology is produced. Huge shipyards here churn out hundreds of ships every year, most being sold to other systems because of the skilful and technological advances over other ships. With a smaller and more skilled population than Atillica, the city shipyards are known for naming their ships ironically, and there is no set residence on the planet for the Smithine, they normally stay in the main shipyard, Titanicos, where they can oversee the production.

    Orbital Stations:
    Pandora Mining Platforms:
The Pandora Mining Platforms are large orbital structures in deep space; where small mining operations and smaller platforms can be overseen, reviewed and launched from. There are currently XII platforms in the system, split up between governership of Henrietta and Jarvis, though only nominally. In reality, they are run by delegates. However, these platforms are not where they mine from, they are used as staging bases for ships and smaller operations to be launched from, harvesting matter and materials from the many asteroids floating around the system.

One of the many different ships out gathering minerals from the asteroid belts present in the system.

    Parthenoii Defence Stations:
Parthenoii Defence Stations have been specially designed by the leading scientists from the Pandoran Academy of Space too help defend the system and offer a rapid response team, having the capacity to have small squadrons of light ships dock, and have the latest state-of-the-art detection software, so they can spot intrusions into the system and quickly report them. They are also host to officers of Shock Legions, learning and training here.

One of the larger defence platforms, currently orbiting one of the platforms in the system to pick up new recruits.

    Loki Observation Decks:
The Observation Decks serve another purpose, the gathering and observing of information; and research. With long-range sensors and hooked into the 'Gateway Network', they are more of spy platforms, gathering information on everything that happens through out the system. As well as this they provide a secretive area for research to be done, it is rumoured that several of the shock legion design aspects were developed here. All are under direct command of the Justicar of the system, William, and report to him only.

Currently the largest observation platform, it is in constant orbit of Po, and is said to house the home of the 'Gateway Network' A.Is.

    House History

House Smithine was founded in the midst of the 7th Stellar Era, inheriting the system from a loose relationship to the heir-less old lore, who had granted the land to his cousin, the man, Angus, had already proven himself by developing several new mining and production technologies; aiding the production of Atillica and Hungaras in their mission to produce heavy armaments. However, with this land grant, came the ire of many relatives, all hoping to depose this new imposter and gain the system for their own cadet branch. However, they had not counted upon the founder, A cunning man who it was rumoured had a slightly shady past he had been taught in the politics of ruling and intrigue; along with how to blackmail and coerce.

One by one rival branches of the house, fell to pieces, died out, were simply forgotten. Eventually, the Smithine were at internal peace, and then, the Titan Wars. With Gateway so close to where the Titans had been released; they were subject to many battles in their skies, although they attempted to remain neutral, they took a firm stand upon the defence of their territory. As these eras of wars drew to a close, they were one again tossed into the fray against the insects, helping lead the forces that saved the Marchers from almost certain defeat.

    Amidric answers hastily.

'Of course! I shall cancel all other arrangements immediately!"

His thoughts lie with what the aged lord wishes of him, most likely with an inquiry as to why I have raised my fleets, or an order to disband them.

Amidric's thoughts were grim as he boarded one of his luxury transport vessels and ordered the Pilot to take him to the Gateway system as swiftly as possible.

In truth I know not what he wishes of me. That was what ignited the fear within him.

The shuttle was guided down to the planet, monitored by several Loki stations ever since it entered the system. As it descended down onto the lush planet, the green environment was easily seen, idyllic hills and rivers dotting the island it was slowly going too. Accompanied by two other small destroyer vessels, the transport shuttle landed on a small heli-pad, near a breathtakingly beautiful high-tech complex, surrounded by lush green landscape and rolling rivers. A young aide led the lord through a series of corridors, before leading him into a well-organised room where a elderly man sat behind a desk, shuffling through several reports. A man similar to his age also sat on the other side of the desk, casually fiddling with a model of a battleship design that Amidric would never have seen before. The elder man coughed slightly, and the other one turned to look.

"Please, do sit here with us, take a seat next to my brother Jarvis."
The elder one pointed to a vacant chair, he was clearly the Lord Protector.

Amidric strode gracefully forward, and sat, his eyes never leaving the old man.

"I must say, Lord Protector. I have searched thoroughly for a reason why I have been asked here. Please do me the favour of explaining to me,My Lord." The last two words were of icy courtesy, he was uncertain as to how he should proceed.

Augustus smiled at him with the smile that an elder gives to a youngster that still has not learnt.

"No need to act so defensive young man! I am aware that you have summoned your fleets to you, I couldn't care less about that, what I do care about is dealing with this insect menace that plagues our borders. As you are aware the empire heaps upon generalisations to all, you would be called a marcher lord and I a technocrat. However, I see marcher's as soldiers, not anything else, in fact, my brother Jarvis is a great soldier, having fought at those fateful battles long ago. What I want to ask you really, is if you would be willing to co-operate with me to end this menace, to drive the scum from the Empire. If you don't, you can leave now, if you do, my brother may have something that will interest you."

Augustus smiles slyly, the smile that most people smile when they think they've won.

For a moment Amidric was taken a back, but a smile cut across his face, a new-found respect for the Lord Protector, he wouldn't refer to him as the Old Man any-more.

Amidric thought of the Marcher Lords, of his families words.

However, Amidric knew that politics was a game of haggling, of demands and threats. "Should the Insect threat emerge, I will do my duty and fight, to the bitter, bloody and heroic end. I will do what I can to help you, Lord Protector." He gave a slight bow of his head. "Just tell me what you wish me to do, and, what your brother has that may interest me."

Amidric's smile is one of little knowledge, not grasping that he may become a pawn in some man's game.

Jarvis cut into the flow excellently, picking up the conversation where Augustus left off.

"We all know, that Marten is a wasteland, and infected by insects. The first step to beating back the horde is to fully recover that system. Hopefully by clearing it we can convince the Warden of the Marches to either come over, or we can just ignore him. You also are aware, that the 'technocrats' have advanced technology in many areas, not least the Shock Legions, and I believe that together we can at least beat them back from Marten. We must both avenge our lost kinsmen, and you can earn yourself prestige amongst your fellows for this. There are also a few other technocrats who I am engaged in talks in who may be willing to aid me. If you agree with my plan to start cleansing Marten, perhaps we can send an expeditionary space-fleet there, to assess the risk."

Jarvis speaks like a general, not some pancy politician but a man who has bled, fought and almost died in battles where there was no chance of survival.

Amidric stares at the man, a man he can understand. This is a man that knows war, a man that will bleed for the Empire. Am I willing to do the same?

For minutes he found himself simply staring, asking himself what he should do. From a tactical point of view, even together they would not have the man power to fully cleanse the lost system of Marten of the horde.

But, every one of the bastards we kill will be another we don't have to when the Empire launches a full scale invasion.

He rose, face now grim, a dark light within his eyes. He turned to Jarvis. "What is it you wish for me to do?"

"I do not wish for you to do anything, I ask you too aid me, and possibly others, in sending at first an expeditionary force to Marten to see how much the filth has spread; from there, we shall see. I shall send messages of a plan to your system at a later date if you wish to go with this, it will likely be a space only force we will send, to scout the system and destroy small pockets. Perhaps, we can even try and revive Marten."

    Augustus cuts again, smoothly.

"I wish to help you reclaim these systems, and we will aid in all ways we can. While we talk Hungaras churns out more cruisers, and on this very island students watch video footage of the Battle of Marten, learning how to fight. Let us help you retake this, and avenge our father."

Amidric nodded, "I will immediately commission more forces of my levy to be raised."

He turned to leave, and then turned back and embraced the two men. "Let us avenge our father." he spoke softly, voice a trickle of water upon the lush grass.

As Amidric leaves he would see far more activity than when he arrived, with shuttles flying between different orbital platforms, and even a gigantic capital ship launching off from Hungaras, smaller ships zipping round it. As the ship shot out the system, more and more shuttles could be seen launching of from Po.

Amongst the flurrying of activity, a single Light Cruiser bearing the markings and transponder information of House Sigismund of Varth jumped into the System. Making its way towards the surface of Pantheon, it carried Lord Garrick Sigismund.

After some time, the Lord appeared at the residence of Smithine family, bearing with him an invitation to meet with Lord Augustus.

Several aides show him through, leading him through a series of corridors to a large room; although there seems to be no guards of any sort. As the aide enters the room Garrick would see a desk, on which were mounted several models of different planets and cruisers, with a 50 year old man behind the desk, standing he gestured to Garrick that he should sit on the other side of the desk.

"Good Lord Sigismund, I am afraid that my brother, Augustus, is not able to attend but I, his brother Jarvis, know full well what he wanted to talk to you about. Do you wish to sit and I can explain?"

Jarvis speaks bluntly, not like one who is charismatic or a negotiator, more like the honest and bluff tongue of a soldier.

Garrck sits and nods, remaining in silence. It was uncommon for a Technocrat to have cause to ask for a Marcher by name.

"My brother has arranged, with the Lord of Aquilae, to travel to Morten to try and cleanse the system of the insectoid filth, as the Emperor is to weak to do anything about this. My brother and I have a vested interest in this as we have fought against the insectoid, and lost our father to them. I was wondering if you would wish to help? If we take Morten we may even be able to start to push into their space. With successes like this, perhaps the Emperor will send aid. I ask you as you have clearly fought against them already and know the threat.

Garrick shifted in his seat uncomfortably: attacking the Insectoids was a risky move.

"We barely stopped only one of their own swarms from penetrating deep into the Empire," replied Garrick, leaning forwards, "and that was with the entire might of the Marcher and Technocrat fleets. You intend to go jabbing at the hornet's nest with nought but a token force from three Systems?"

Jarvis looks straight at him, a gleam in his eye.

"I do not intend to go, poking the hornet's nest. I intend to survey the system, and see if cleansing it would be easy. If so, perhaps then we will make an attempt; if not, the imperial council should be notified of the imminent danger."

"I can spare you the trouble: it is a dead place, planets of ruined cities and human bones. The subways, mines and caves of those places now serve as hives for the Insects. Their ships harvest the asteroids and drink the oceans. Their presence there is light, as Insect infestations go, but should they react, should they drive you out, you risk the Insects pressing upon our space once again." replied Garrick seriously, "It would take a new Holy War with the backing of all the Empire to see the Insects pushed back to the borders that existed before that swarm took Elvan and Marten."
