The Old House of Ignatius
Background of House Ignatius
Fire has always been a friend of humanity, it has made our predators coward and given warmth to homes since the day man discovered it. It cooked our meals, gave us light, and fueled man’s earliest engines. Just as fire is a savior, it is a destroyer. Cities have burned from the flames of war, homes burned from the ignorance of man, and flame has been the kindle of hatred within our hearts.
“From the Fire we are born,” that has been the motto of House Ignatius since its establishment during the first 2,000 years of the Empire’s existence. At first the surname Ignatius was not at all a surname, but the name of an Emperor. The Old Lords of Ignatius have claimed to be descended from an Emperor during the height of the Great Holy War, Ignatius Magnus, known as ‘the Great Fire’ who ruled during the middle of the 2nd Stellar Era. While he was known to be a notable warrior, Ignatius is remembered more so as a fiery orator and a man whose words kindled the flames of any man’s heart. His words especially kindled the Great Holy War against mankind’s worst enemy. Ignatius’ heart, mind and soul were dedicated to the Promethean Creed and his words were aligned with the Creed’s ideals. His personal banner was a blazing red sun against a golden sky, the great fire that existed in every man’s heart. His reign was not long, only encompassing the short Southern Crusades, but he is remembered as one who helped kindle the continued hatred towards the Great Enemies and ensuring that the Great Holy War lasted beyond his lifetime.
When Ignatius died, his descendants returned to their homeworld of Nu Scorpii, a planet of similar habitat to that of Earth; temperate, lush and blue. It is a very large planet that Ignatius believed would provide for his descendants and grow to become a jewel of the Empire. As their existence continued and expanded, House Ignatius has given birth to many proud and resourceful individuals, some became Emperors while others served among the Empire’s mechanics, furthering its expansion, strengthening and continuity. Many of these individuals served on the Imperial Council, participated in the Commonwealth, enacted necessary reforms and commanded the armies of the Empire.
In the most recent time since the death of Alexander XVI's predecessor, Ignatius has begun to seek a rising career. During the reign of both Alexander XVI and the early years of Maximilian XXVI, Odysseus Ignatius gained a foot in the door for the future of his family through his dedicated serves to the Emperor, gaining him favor and fortune. Odysseus was a hardline Old Lord who favored his fellow nobles and only gave favor to those useful below that of the Old Houses; his charisma and strength are one to be remembered in the family annals. A decade ago, Odysseus died of an old age and was succeeded by his grandson, Balthasar Ignatius, eldest son of Francis Ignatius, who had died of what was believed to have been an accident. Balthasar is a rising star among the Old Lords and similar in skill to his grandfather, Odysseus. During much of Balthasar's lifetime, which lasted throughout the reign of Maximilian XXVI, he kept to his home for a time being before entering the political scene to serve on the Empire's Council. It is still relatively unknown what the man’s ambitions are, but his skill and loyalty makes others wonder of his potential; could it rival that of Odysseus? Perhaps even go beyond that of his grandfather?
Due to the dedication and effort of House Ignatius, Nu Scorpii has become known as one of the Core World’s most powerful and industrious planets alongside Terra and Terra Nova, home of House Nomond. Some may call it one of the jewels of the Empire. While Nu Scorpii is rather industrious, its system contains two other worlds; St. Angelus and Heraclea. These two planets serve as the feeding basket and are exporters of raw materials to Nu Scorpii. This triad system sustains each other and ensures peace lasts. The people of Nova Angelus are known to be great farmers and hold huge plots of fertile lands. The planet of Heraclea is not only a mining planet but has a militarized population that lends able bodies to the armies of the Ignatius. The House of Ignatius and those who are their subjects are known to be greatly loyal and dedication to the Empire as well as known to be fervent believers in the Promethean Creed.

2 Special Forces Units. Though every Lord commands hundreds of thousands of soldiers and fleets of warships, they’re trained to fight on battlefields, not in the far more difficult art of personal protection against concealed threats. A 6-man team of the Lord’s most dedicated, skilled and best equipped soldiers can be intensively trained to engage in, or guard against, such threats. +3 to assassination rolls if Special Forces are helping kill someone, -3 if they’re helping protect someone. The Special Forces will be removed as an item if the assassination they’re helping in fails, or if the assassination they’re trying to stop succeeds, as the surviving soldiers desert and disappear, fearing the wrath of the aristocracy.
