    Default Settlement Loyalty train

    Hey,

I have just started playing RS 2.6, switching from RS 2.1 Five Good Emperors, and in the new trait/ ancillary system there is this one trait that seems a bit confusing to me- Settlement_Loyalty

Even though it appears to refer to a specific settlement it is a current governor of that settlement that gains the trait. But... what if that character moves to another city? Is this trait still valid?

Also, it says that unless you lower the taxes the loyalty of your governor will go down which in turn may result in your settlement revolting.

I don't, however, see any loyalty bar in the character description. Does this trait, then, have any impact on the game at all?

I think the trait is supposed to be a reflection of the governor who decided to raise taxes to very high, so his reputation will follow him if he moves to another settlement unless taxes are lowered. As for the loyalty bar, I might be wrong but I think it only appears in the character description if your playing on the BI engine.

My BI disc is broke atm so I can't test this last part.

It's caused by the settlement having very high taxes. The people get pissed the longer you charge them ridiculous taxes and the trait gets worse and worse unless you lower the taxes to something more acceptable.

As you can see, it is only applicable to settlements with a governor. But having a governor gives tax bonus' and public order, plus having lower taxes gives growth bonus' too.

Swapping out governors works, so that you can always have your treasury city at very high. They never notice as long as you rotate your politicians in and out with amazing campaign promises of "only High taxes", despite always having Very High...

Ah, well that answers that. Tbh the main effect of bad loyalty traits that I can see seems to be how easy a character is to bribe and that they'll accept a lower amount of money when bribed. I don't think if ever seen a character with bad loyalty traits rebel by himself unless he's in a city with bad public order, or if he's bribed.

It requires Loyalty to actually be on.

Not all the RS2 campaigns make use of the built-in Loyalty system (Rome might, I know my Sparta and Syracuse campaigns do not)

I think Rome actually should. Not sure what other nations, too, but it seems that The Ptolemaic Empire does not.

In the light of what has been said it appears then that if there is no loyalty bar visible the trait is completely meaningless in that instance

after few more turns I realized that I was actually wrong and this trait still has an impact even though the loyalty bar is not visible

Once you earn Settlement_Loyalty_II trait the public order automatically drops down 25-30%

It is a good thing that makes the whole taxation concept more dynamic rather than static as it was before.

It takes more time for you to administer but it is definitely worth it as it brings more immersion into the game.

I don't think it affects character loyalty at all, just public order in settlements.

it might be so and it is just the trait description that is inaccurate

In the descr_character_traits, the line of code dealing with loyalty is commented out

It's because Loyalty isn't turned on
