Questions on unit replenishment and upgrades

Loving this game again - haven't played in ages.

I can't remember how to replenish my ships health? - I place them in trade ports etc but don't get the replenishment symbol (+).

Also why can't units be upgraded - eg armor? is there a mods that allows this?

The ship replenishment button should be somewhere near the disband ship button. It's only available in a port.

Units can't be upgraded because the makers thought allowing such retraining would cause people to make overpowered units. As far as I know there are no mods to change this, though you can do it in Rome II so maybe it's possible. I would guess not though.

repair it, it wont replenish itself, put the ship on the trading port, and press R or u can click it manually.
