Simply use socket bayonets? The biggest problems will be the animations though. US soldiers fighting like yari samurai will definitely look ridiculous.

I don't think the animations will be a problem or so if we include bayonets since bayonets are already in FoTs, and there are proper animations, have a look at this mod - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...38081-Bayonets . They were able to get bayonets in PROPER usage in SIITW. ^^

Damn I thought it was possible seeing all the new possibilities, but i guess I let the excitement get the better of me.

Not at all, I use a bayonet mod for FoTS atm and it looks really good.

Well does Shogun 2 use the same animation system Rome 2 uses? If so you could make bayonet animations using the Rome 2 assembly kit and then put them in Shogun 2. It might look better.

Gentlemen, bayonets are not my top priority tbh

I would be more interested in if something knows if its possible to get the Unit Namings from ETW/NTW back. Numbers of the 1. Line Infantry Regiment were ongoing.

    ---

Ok, I looked through the loc and it seems to be possible to reintroduce the naming, but I need a quick confirmation.

In the loc, you can assign the suffix _1 / _2 / _3 n, which have different names. CA used this for the Samurai heroes. But now i want to know, are those heroes ONE recruitable unit which then have a different name, or are there several heroes you can recruit?

Doesn't N & S has some custom-made Springfields? They are longer than FoTS minie carbines. Gotta Import the Spike Bayonets already attached to the rifles too.

Genpei Heroes are One Recruitable Unit with many names, means regimental names are possible.

Porting ETW buildings could help this mod a lot, especially for Mappers.

I agree with Primergy that Bayonet Animations isn't most pressing at this moment. Better keep it simple without toggles, just standard melee attack. Perhaps we can simplify the animation by isolating more fancy Yari combat moves out at animation battleconfiguration fragment.txt level rather than in .anim level. Still need trial-and error to identify them out of 101 combat animation fragments though...

Damn my poor ACW knowledge...New Ironsides didn't look like any Steam Frigates...

Maybe give the infantry a backup melee weapon that looks the same as a musket but with a bayonet? Is this possible?

That's how it's done. A rifle with bayonet is used as primary and secondary weapon. In combination with the yari animations, you get bayonet troops.

    Thanks for confirmation.

It should be possible to make bayonets appear only during melee, with a short script in the battle-fragments.

Contemplating buying Shogun II or FotS, but I don't have strong interest in the subject matter, especially earlier Japanese period. Will this mod work with FotS? (Not sure how modding overlaps between the two.)

Yes, you need FotS for playing. Because i will use the campaign button of FotS and if you don't own it, this one is greyed out.
But those will take few years, so maybe its cheaper then
