    Default Serious lag in battle

    Hi,

I have some serious lag problems in battle. I turned the unit size down to medium which seemed to help a lot. Now I'm further into my campaign I have a bridge battle where I'm defending and the lag is just unbearable. I have 700 men they have about 1200. My FPS at the start of the battle is over 200 then when they start crossing the bridge and firing balistas it drops down to 60-80, BUT it feels like 1fps. The camera movement is jerky as well and it's pretty much unplayable. All the time though my fps never falls below 40fps and usually is hovering around 70.

This reminds me of the time I tried to overclock my CPU using AMD vision control center, it's a weird kind of lag.

    My specs:

CPU: Stock AMD FX-4100 quad core @ 3.6gz
    RAM: 8GB DDR3
    GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6870

Anyone have any idea what this is? Seem really odd that fraps and other software telling me my fps is ok yet I'm lagging like crazy.

    Thank you.

Oh 1 other thing. I have tried turning the graphics settings(unit detail etc) down all the the lowest possible and it makes absolutely no difference.

How do your M2TW and Kingdoms battles perform on this PC? M2TW is not optimised for AMD CPUs and ATI GPUs, but for Intel and NVidia. Sad, but true. Selective elitism I presume..

    Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I haven't played M2TW or kingdoms for quite a few years now and not since I got this computer so I can't really say. I bought this game on steam recently solely to play this mod. Most of my battles are fine, but I have to have the unit size set to medium which helped a lot. Just hate the fact that I can't enjoy more large scale battles and that I should avoid fighting on a bridge, especially when I've read posts in these forums saying they play battles with 10k units in with much lowers PC specs than mine. I guess I'll just have to live with it if it's an issue with my card being AMD and there's no fix. Sucks.

You could invest in a better CPU Cooler to improve your CPU performance vs temperature, and, you should disable/turn off these things in TATW Video Options: Shadows, campaign shadows, bloom, reflections etc..

    Also, delete map.rwm file found in ..M2TW\ mods\ Folder where Third_Age_3 is installed\ data\ world\ maps\ base folder.

I just did a fresh install of everything and installed D&C instead of MOS. I didn't touch the unit size so they're still on huge or whatever the default is. Have unit detail on high and some other settings on high with shadows turned off and it's smooth as silk now FPS seems to be locked at 60 the whole time and no weird jumping like before.

    Thanks for the help
