    ~HTW Beta Test Feedback~

First I'd like to thank Neph for releasing an 'open beta' version so the community can make the game even better

Right now I'm mostly concerned with making sure the Twili, Wizzrobe, and Sheikah campaigns work well. The whole Twili Civil War, Wizzrobe Bishops, and the Sheikah being able to recruit in Shadow Stance.

I forgot to mention, you need to deselect the Hylians (or whatever faction) at the selection menu after you select the one you want to play as. The Freeform Campaign works like the Hotseat Campaign now where you can select and play as multiple races. This obviously helps for testing purposes as well.
    also important:
the beta doesn't have an installer, you have to extract both .zip files to your m2tw mods folder (best program to use is winrar)
the default path for extraction is C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods
however i've found that turn times are shorter when the game is moved out of the program files folder, so i've moved mine to the 'games' folder. another (easier) option is instead of moving the game, run kingdoms (and steam if you're using it) as an administrator, this will speed up the game because files will not be copied to virtualstore
~to run the game, run either the AUI.bat or Executable.bat file inside your Hyrule folder~

I have a decent amount of feedback already but I'll wait until I've played thru my favorite faction's campaign (Gerudo) then I'll post it all

    @rusty

For whatever reason, in the beta of the new version the freeform campaign acts like a hotseat campaign. The Kingdom of Hyrule will automatically be selected when you get to faction selection screen (notice, it says "select factions"). You have to click it again to de-select it.

Hmm, I would've thought feedback would be more private considering the beta status and not to leak information.

Anyways, I guess I'm not needed since I didn't get an invite (or my first e-mail was used instead of the corrected one). Either way, good luck testing!

Well, in that case, let me go over the issues I've found with the Twili Civil War thus far.
-Zant's forces cannot construct structures. Even after Midna has been defeated (I had her exiled) I could not build anything and was stuck in the Twilight Zone for all eternity.
-The game would crash when I played as Midna's forces and attempted to attack Zant. I didn't get the crash log from that, but I could easily replicate it and get you the log if you need it.

I wish I had more for you, but I kinda can't advance in the Twili stuff, as both issues are "end of the line" roadblocks. I also had an odd but minor issue where I loaded a game as Zant's forces and I ended up having to watch the KoH take a turn and then had the Hylian UI for a turn, but that corrected itself after a battle. I think that's caused by the hotseat thing interacting with the faction switcher for Zant's forces, as it didn't happen when I loaded a Kokiri game, for instance, nor did it happen with loading a game with Midna's forces. Only Zant's.

I've actually been playing 1 faction at a time, as using multiple factions seems to cause a host of UI, loading, and event problems.

Okay I've placed the files into the mod folder, but when I run it it just says it can't find kingdoms again, I'm sort of on the verge of giving up here.

Hey tedster. Check out my reply in the technical subforum, it should be able to help you get past that stage. I'm interested to see whether or not you'll be able to run it once you've gotten past that error.

Nope didn't work, not through the launcher or through the bat file, not even my other expansions work now either.

i only things I can think of is that I installed the updates before the campaigns, or that I don't have an up to date thing, or it simply doesn't work with my operating system, it's that is the case then I'm not gonna bother anymore, as good a game as it is, it is just too much hassle, if anybody thinks its these problems then I'm all ears, cus I'm getting seriously p****d off now.

I think it's probably something on the mod's end. Too many people having the same problem.

Hallelujah it works , at last, what I would suggest is to double check that all the files were added during the extraction, as I found out some we're missing, my first problem is that it crashes upon selecting custom battle, but its still early days and happy I finally got this b***h working.

also two future Historia missions are playable, is that on purpose?

How did you figure out you were missing files?

I simply opened two windows and went through, had them side by side basically, it will most likely be the data file, that's what is was with me, also double check that the files from the second download, I think it's the sounds and unit models, check that you didn't accidentally place them in another file, like I did.

also I'm testing the Twili, and well as said above you can't do anything as midna, but cricket is she aggressive when its the other way around, literally will not leave me alone. Interesting thing happened when I was Midna though, I created a ceasefire and then formed an alliance with zant, I attacked him, it didn't crash and he backed off, round two and it crashed, don't know if that helps in any shape or form.

This should fix the problem with Zant not being able to build certain things: export_descr_buildings.txt

As for Midna I'm not sure, I'm getting no crash when I attack Zant. A Crashlog for that would indeed help.

It's not on purpose. I have most of the Hyrule Historia missions set up but obviously not complete. Not sure how I missed those two. I suppose anyone can playtest them if they want.

well i'm done with my gerudo campaign, since it's at a "dead end" -when hyrule attacks ashinon (which never happened before, i like the new aggressive ai) the game crashes every time i try to enter into battle. tried reloading saves, didn't work, tested ashinon in custom battles and had the same problem. this might apply to other custom settlements but idk

I'm guessing that there weren't many bugfixes compared to the 3.5 version since this beta is mostly meant for testing the new campaigns, so many of these bugs already appear in the bug center, but i'll post them anyway in case they were supposed to be fixed in this version. Only got thru 12 turns so there aren't too many bugs, but imo my most important feedback is on the 'big picture' parts of the mod (economy, pop. growth, etc.)
I'll start a Twili campaign next btw

Although this is all critical feedback understand that overall the mod is ridiculously good
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Bugs
-unavoidable crash when trying to fight battles in Ashinon (might apply to other custom settlements. Reloading saves doesn’t work)

    - Can’t increase religion in wylanodorf. can only build statue of goddesses instead of goddess and deity statue. Basically there’s no way to get a city, that does not have the player faction's religion, to the 25% requirement so that a building can be constructed to help convert the city

-Aidaidorf contains a spirit temple but the temple doesn’t give provide a 1% religion growth bonus like it should

-Hylians had armies that only contained siege weapons. Think because their priority is set too high? There’s a submod thread that has a fix for this but I forgot which one ;/

-Armor seems to be almost useless and when generals spawn they are not equipped with armor upgrades (in vanilla m2tw generals had the third level of armor)

-generals have marauder bodyguards, only heroes have proper bodyguards (gerudodorf); not sure if this is bug or intended, but marauders are rly weak for a bodyguard unit

--No free unit upkeep even though the settlement could produce the garrisoned units and the settlement provided unit upkeep slots (most likely bug from americas)

-Also played Hylian campaign for a few turns. Bigjaro and Kakariko riot after turn 1 even though public order > 100%

-ice arrows do so much damage to siege towers that i'm guessing its a bug, basically 25% damage per arrow

-2 music tracks play during loading screen

    “Big Picture” Observations

-The economy is insane, factions basically have infinite wealth (for example gorons had 35000 by turn 12), this is because 1) unit upkeep is basically zero 2) Buildings and units are incredibly cheap

-Movement points/ranges are way too high, armies can basically move halfway across the map in a turn (might be a timescale issue?)

-Boiling oil is gamebreaking and is terrible for the game- the AI can't avoid it and its troops get completely annihilated bc they try to enter thru the main gate; the player, however, can avoid it w/ siege towers/ladders/etc. This makes defending some settlements laughably easy bc of this & bc boiling oil is so powerful

-Siege weapons are too powerful, they were op in vanilla but they’re even crazier in htw. Op siege weapons suck the strategy out of attacking/defending settlements (just blast 10 holes in the walls...) and devalue melee combat which is the focus of Zelda games. Siege weapons just massacre foot soldiers and turn battles into shootouts…until the economy issue is resolved I’d suggest increasing the build time of the units/siege factories and/or the recruitment rate since increasing the cost won’t do much

-In the future, might want to include a garrison script (see TATW) for the AI to make the game more challenging, since AI doesn’t defend its settlements well

    Minor things

    - Y no ‘flash own/enemy units’ button ;/

-cant issue movement orders outside movement range (most likely bug from americas)

-By the time ganondorf arrives, the game is basically over: turn 100 is too late, maybe think about turn 50 or 75 (if this is changed already nvm, just basing this on previous playthroughs)

-For the biggest, baddest villain in the Hyrule universe, ganondorf is pretty weak. He also has the ‘vulnerable to missiles’ trait

-I’d like if the ‘Gerudo Fortress’ music was added

-The HTW config doesn’t allow the game to be windowed. It’d be nice if it was set to “windowed = true
borderless_window = true” which makes it a lot easier to alt/tab out of the game

-Bronze knuckles don’t have the ‘well-armored’ trait (wat…)

-Twinovra’s unit is very small (8 units w/ ‘normal’ unit size) while other gerudo heroes have about 30)

-Personally I’m not a fan of ganondorf’s mask (I think his ocarina look is the best/most badass)

-no ‘faction relationship’ modifiers that improve/worsen factions’ feelings about each other in descr.strat

    Thanks for reading

Okay so some good news, when zant surrenders to Midna it seems to work perfectly fine (still waiting to see if any mirror glitches happen) but I've made it into Hyrule. Having said that this event is incredibly unbalanced that it is almost unplayable, here is a few suggestions
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    * for starters Midna starts of with a huge army, I mean she had 3 full stacks around Valran by turn 4, my suggestion is that her army is reduced and Zante buffed up a bit.
*Zants AI is very un aggressive, I don't know whether this is a bug or not but, his armies just stand outside Valran not doing anything.
*Not sure whether it was intentionally but Onox doesn't join after Uzu is taken, just thought I'd say

well at the moment that's all I can think of, I know obviously this will be a last priority after getting it working flawlessly but just a suggestion for a final polish at the end and I hope that I have helped in some form as well.

For my feedback, I made a .txt document and placed it inside the shared folder. If I need to take it out to create room, I will do just that, but for now I'm going to leave it there so I can continually update with glitches, bugs, and just weird things in the game without having to open my internet and navigate to this page every time. Like I stated previously, if I need to remove "Aquos4's Bug and Glitch Log" to make room, I will do just that.

The Darknuts, Wizzrobe, Sheikah and the Twili can't upgrade cities, this is a real hindrance to them, since they won't be able to get upper tier troops. Also the mirror still duplicates, but for some reason it sorta comes and goes when it pleases.
