Icon5 Running SS 6.4 within Steam -- What purpose does it serve?

    Hi

    1. Does SS 6.4 expect or runs better if launched within Steam?
    2. What value does Steam provide if SS 6.4 is running within it?
    3. Can I just copy-n-paste Medieval 2 w/ mod SS 6.4 from the default SEGA installation into the suggested Steam installation directory?
    4. When running SS 6.4 for the first time, what does it mean with initial modal-dialog if I have a Steam installation of Kingdom.exe, even if I launching game from within SEGA directory and I have Kingdom installation disc installed?

    Thank you

    Jeff in Seattle

Don't know, for me the advantage was that my cd didn't work so well anymore after all these years so I just bought kingdoms of steam, and now I never need to worry about crappy discs, pc crashing and losing the disc or the serial etc...

I have batman arkham asylum here for instance, and when we moved, somehow the booklet with the serial was lost, and I've never been able to play it since, and I hadn't played for that long either, it's even the collectors edition so I paid 100€ for it back then, now I only buy games if they come with a steam version (I make an exception for the simcity games)

I am all old school, and I hate steam. I want my PC to be my property, and I want to use it whenever I want. Even if the internet connection is down. Even when some external service provider decides they do not want to provide. It is I who decides if and when to update a program, not some unknown person in a foreign country. I want to know the programs running on my PC, and I want to know what they are doing. If a program tries to update itself without asking for my permission, I remove it. People may use steam if they want, it certainly has its advantages. But not for me.

Strengelicher xD steam just keeps record of which games you own so you can download them whenever you want, once its downloaded they have no further meddling with your stuff if so you wish, you could completely modify your game to your like (even "illegal" ways) and Steam has no control whatsoever on it...as its no more than a online repository that sells games + some social features and very good discounts!...from time to time.
The Auto-Update is a completely optional feature, yes it comes on by default but it can be turned off.
The only games that cannot be play offline are those that are specifically made to be played online like MMOs etc...but at least most of the games i own can be played very well in offline mode.

For example my M2TW+Kingdoms got it from steam for a bargain price...and if you know how you can even play it without even running steam .
There's nothing evil with the steam, dont hate it so much, learn how to configure it and it will be just pure WIN

The only bad thing i've found on steam is the no possibility of transferring your ownership of a game to another steam user...of course is understandable as this could undermine their precise business...but they have for this massive discounts like extra "copies" for friends when you already own a game for example.

I should stop doing free advertising like this...
xD Join the Church of Steam! xD steam is god sent for people like me living in backwards 3rd world countries forgotten and shun by the developed world.
No seriously there is no real drawback if you know how configure your steam to your liking.

now back on topic and jeff's question, there is no advantage from running the game on steam or not...what is mandatory is running the mod from the EXE in SS6.3 folder, as it has some extra features not available when launched from M2 native launcher, mainly the BattleAI randomizer which cannot be run otherwise*, then other features like auto borderless window, campaign date and season shown in the UI that can be activated with the cfg file if you know how.

So that's why it if you have steam is recommended that you add a steam shortcut to the SS_launcher.exe

*Actually that's not true, but the process to do it is quite complex to be explained in few words.
