Default Iraq child-marriage bill sparks outrage among human rights groups

A new draft law would allow child marriage to be down to the age of 9. Morever, men would be able to force their wifes to sex without their consent legally.
the law would also "restrict women's rights in matters of parenting, divorce and inheritance" and " is a political move to define the identity of the country's majority Shias before next month's election, officials say." Approved by the country's justice minister, it enrages human rights groups.

Why is this kind of legalisation still present, what societal, political and religious factors enable for this kind of laws to even be proposed?

    Age 9?

Why does that number seem familiar for some reason

And why do you think that would change opinions of child marriage?

It's deplorable. Iraq is looking like it's going to turn into a second Saudi Arabia, laws that stamp on others but since America is friendly we don't do anything.

have it occured to you that these kind of laws might be proposed because "the west" tries to "civilize" them?

Nope we just need to stay on our hill and let people who want to live in the 13th century stay there.

There's far worse things going on in Africa (Child sex slave trafficking, huge wars, etc.) but people only seem to care what Muslims are up to.

Thats also going on in the middle-east and I think people that care in general also care about whats going on in Africa.

Your mainstream media does not care. It will care again ala Kony2012 when the time is ripe and the next time the leader of the program doesnt go crazy having sex with the sidewalk after being revealed the program is one big lie after one big lie on a country very conservative and nationalist but economically a miracle of central-Africa.

But dont worry. People will care again after the Ukraine story is done and maybe some other stuff. Only a question of time.

The west is more responsible for what happens in Iraq.
    But still, a good point.

You know whats a good point? Why did people in 2012 cared so much about Uganda and not about the Congo all these years with a death count exceeding the holocaust?

Holocaust: 12 million people. Congo Wars since 1998- 5.8 million people.

But hey, you don't offer much of a solution.

Okay 6 million jews, isnt that the magic number?

But you say a magic word there "solution". Now you got my attention. If you followed my posts on this board then you'd know Im all about solutions, but of course most people dont get they are. That our humanitarian wars, overthrows of nationalist and socialist leaders, civil-war fuelling and ressource raping didnt cause for power vacuums to grow and self-perpetuate resulting into lawnessnes and religious extremism.

That kind of stuff, like starting seeing the world as it is, and then cooperate honsetly and lead by example.
