Fair enough Holger, fair enough The video Darren posted today about videogamer.com did a roundup on Rome 2 in patch state 11.1 shows this noble wish is not yet fulfilled.

I had to read that thread twice before understand its about the randomness of gear shown on each individual men in a unit

This decrease in diversity + the new LoD is quite a pain to see...

I have patch 10 final and the new beta driver and I have the same FPS problems than before + horrible LoD, but good graphical diversity thx to DeI and its beast units.

As everyone pointed out, the last release was a major downgrade in unit diversity (no beards, almost all wearing bright orange tunic, less shield variance, etc, etc). But as many also pointed out, it hardly makes any difference to most who are still even playing since they are most certainly using an overhaul mod.

But just FYI for the vanilla units:

Also, an issue preventing the number of variations of clothing/armour to be displayed on units has been resolved, and more variations added. To read the full list of changes please click the link below to the wiki:

uhm has anyone noticed anything with the new patch in regards to LOD? My units look terrible when I'm zoomed out. Did they downgrade graphics again or is it just me?

not sure about that. However if you like to discuss the LoD issue please use this designated thread. As an advice please unsubcribe to patch 12 as long it is not released and do some screenshots to compare both patch states. Perhaps this can give you a better and visible answer.

I love how nearly all Latin and Hellenic men are bold in the ancient world.

Did they also lower the amount of unique faces within a unit?

Well I personally don't know Barritus. The facial animation is only visible from a very close-up view, so it would be probably hard to see a possible difference quite objectively.

I don't notice any major change, but I think unit diversity is generally excellent in Rome 2.

Well perhaps you missed it, but it is not only about the unit diversity (it was initially). Please have a look on the pics again.

The diversity system is nice, though I think they over did it in certain areas... for example, while realism buffs might disagree, the fact that units can have very different sets of equipment that is randomised throughout the unit actually contributes to the cookie-cutter unit feeling. I can't help but compare it to previous games, where each unit tended to feel very different, and look different, whereas Rome II's seem to feel like the same guy with different clothes. I dunno, it's a minor, silly thing, just my own opinion.

I do like the height randomisation, though. I don't think I ever noticed it in previous games, though it's certainly a nice touch. Can be overdone on some factions though.
