    Default Colonial units

Unlike Europe, armoured musketmen persisted for longer in the colonies because Natives lacked firearms. Also unlike Europe pikemen disappeared sooner and the flintlock musket was introduced earlier (except Spanish empire where matchlock was preferred weapon). More units will follow in later releases.

The units below do not include various generic units available in Europe aswell such as pikemen. For historical reasons, European factions cannot recruit cavalry in the colonies except Spain.

French Canadian infantry (early) were known to have used burgonets.:

New England Companies (used in King Philip's War in 1660s). They wore no bandoliers as they rattled, alerting the Natives:

Are you guys planning on reskinning the armed citizenry? I feel like they occur so often in the game that they need a reskin in order to properly eliminate traces of 18th century units.

In Armies of the Ottoman Turks, 1300-1774 by David Nicolle & Angus McBride, there is a black and white picture of the new 'Tufekci' infantry. It took me a while to find a coloured version: Ottoman Tüfekçi musketeers of Ken'an Pasa in a Pashanameh, c. 1630. British Museum, Sloane 3584, folio 20a
It can be seen that they all wear a red fez, but their coats are variously red, blue, brown, etc.
