Default How do you know if your comp can run Medieval 2?

I am really sorry guys I am so computer stupid. I love the total war series and strategy games and everytime I bought one of the games it has always ran on the comp. Well I have ordered Medieval 2 and with all the talk about people not being able to run it I am a little worried about my comp. Problem is I have no idea what video card or processor I have. Is there somewhere on the comp I can go to look and then you guys help me decide if I need to upgrade?

I would be grateful for any help given.

    Thank you

One way you can find about your PC is to go to the control panel and click on system. That'll tell you some info on your PC like your CPU, how much RAM you have, and your OS. To find out about your video card, click start, run, and type in dxdiag. That'll tell you almost everything like your video card info, sound card info, etc. Have you tried playing the demo yet?

The Medieval 2: Total War demo only supports CPU's with SSE2. You must of course also have a decent video card and at least 512MB RAM.
NOTE- The full game will support SSE only processors. Look here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=64818) for more information.
    ------
For detailed information on your system as a whole follow these steps-
In the botom left hand corner of your desktop click Start > Run > In the Run box type "dxdiag" (without quotes). Inside you'll find a basic summary of your system.
Take note of the amount of RAM(memory) you have, your processor and its speed, as well as your video card information, which can be found in the "Display" tab.
    ------
For detailed CPU(processor) information you can download this program.

For a complete overview of everything connected or inside your PC download this program-
    http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
A very effective tool for gathering very precise system info.

I meant 512MB of system RAM.
256MB of VRAM is perfectly fine.

Your video card is definately not sufficient. Since you have a latop, there extremely tough to upgrade, if not impossible. Contact Dell and ask them if your video card is upgradable. Then get back to us.

I also have a home computer I could put the game on. It is Windows XP Intel R Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.6 GHz, 1.59 GHz, 512 MB of Ram ................NVIDIA GeFOrce MX/MX 400

Would it be cheaper or better to buy a new comp or upgrade this home comp or my laptop?

What would I need to upgrade to?

Thanks for all the help guys. I feel so stupid.

:hmmm: Not sure here but how old is your home PC? It really depends on well you want to play M2TW. If you want to play it well, you're going to have to do some major upgrading. All that stuff you have up there seems pretty weak. You're going to need a stronger CPU, more RAM, a stronger video card, etc. Again, it really depends on well you want to play the game.

I want it to be able to play it very well but depends on the price of upgrading......can any give me an idea on how much it will cost?

also it is a 2000 or 2002 but it seems pretty old.

Let me rephrase that. If I were to build a comp just for this game to run in a pretty high setting what video cards, etc. would I need. If you do have an idea how much it would be to upgrade or build a comp please let me know.

It should be ok. Have you played the demo yet Turkeys!? That should give you a hint on how well you can play the battles. Just turn shadows off or low because that lags everybody’s PC, even mine.

You should be ok. If you can, do some upgrading here and there so that you can play M2TW even better but that's totally up you.

Then definitely try newegg.com like Trajan said. I have been shopping there for years, rarely have problems (a few DOA, but it happens) and their RMA service is unbeatable.
