Never knew OP listened to thrash metal. Although I personally prefer the "classic/vintage" power/heavy metal, Slayer is a great band and is one of the better thrash metal bands out there. They are, unfortunately, in my opinion, far past their prime.

Well yeah, with Jeff Hanneman dying last year from being too much of a man and destroying his liver with alcohol, of course they are past their glory days. I've got nothing against power metal, hell, even badass bands like Pantera used to play power metal in the 80s. However, this thread is about the greatest thrash metal band of all time: SLAYER. And I'd like to keep it that way, so back on track! OR I WILL THROW YOU INTO A SLAYER MOSH PIT FILLED WITH CHAINSAW-WIELDING DEMONS!

I've always enjoyed Tom's amazing vocal performance in this song.

The sound on that album is so old school. I always thought their first album basically sounded like a more evil, badass version of Metallica's first album Kill Em All. I'm of the opinion that they reached perfection with Seasons in the Abyss, although their sound was at least fully matured by the release of Reign in Blood, seeing how it holds two of their most popular songs, "Angel of Death" and obviously the monumental landmark "Raining Blood":



The song is just a non-stop whirlwind frenzy of ass kicking and face stomping... with a deliciously evil sounding breakdown midway through, of course.

It looks like their longtime drummer Dave Lombardo has had yet another falling out with the band:

An original member of the band, you might remember that he left from 1992 to 2001 as well. It looks like the only original members that are going to be left are Kerry King and Tom Araya. RIP Hanneman.

I like them but I think they are horribly overrated and underrated in certain metal fan groups. You will rarely find someone who just sort of likes Slayer.

(On a serious note, I do love Slayer, but the sometimes undue attention that is given to them tends to overshadow great thrash metal bands that have been almost completely forgotten, like Testament for instance).
