At the bottom of the Medieval 2:Total War FAQ - Multiplayer section is says..

An unsupported battle editor included shipped with the game meanwhile will allow players to create their own custom battlefields or battle scenarios on which to play out their next multiplayer clash or release to the Total War community.

So I guess it will be the same thing as RTW had.

im pretty sure that ive seen this discussion before.
i think some1 posted the screen shot of the game menu, where it says map editor.
i think that is for creating your own "historical" battles.

Would be cool if they had map editor of campain map..would made some thing s much easier...
