Question: Possible to change names of generals?
I'm tired of the randomly generated names for my Greek factions, I was wondering if it were possible to change which names come up for the various successor kingdoms.
For example: For the Macedonians, can I remove all general names and then add only those that were common for the Antigonid House (Antigonus, Demetrius, Philip, Perseus)

Re: Question: Possible to change names of generals?
It is probably possible to make new name categories besides Celtic, Roman, Germanic, Hellenistic and Eastern but I don't know how, you've gotta reference quite a few different tables.
I have tried making my own custom names and I deleted all the vanilla names and added about 50 custom names to each category (and changed generals names) but for some reason it doesn't really work effectively. Half the time your custom names WILL work, the other half new characters won't have any names at all and it'll be just a blank space. I don't think the way the names are ordered affects this because it should work either all the time or none of the time.
So basically, it kinda works but not 100%
To add names go to "names" in the Assembly Kit. You might need to delete all the characters if you're planning a complete overhaul.
To add new name groups go look at "names_groups"
To look at the way names are ordered look at "name_order"

That's a shame, here I was hoping to have Ptolemies actually named Ptolemy.
Thanks for the reply though!

Re: Question: Possible to change names of generals?
Absolutely. Its very easy though time consuming.
I made a mod I use for personal use that changes all the names of the Iceni generals to ones that I prefer. The way to do it is to first get a list of the names of the generals you don't like and then make a mod with (from rome local) text db names.loc and find each of those names and replace them with your preferred names and these will show up in game.
I think that youll have to start a new campaign using this method though as sometimes, for me, it crashed when using an old campaign and I had changed the names of generals already recruited. This crash would be caused by startpos incompatabilities.
The other way to do this is to simply open your saved game file with the editor and find the names of your currently recruited generals and change them. This will mean you wont have crashes with current campaigns.

Re: Question: Possible to change names of generals?
Sorry for reviving old thread but have been looking and I cant find the answer : trying to add new political faction to rome with completly new names/family name there are not in db, got the basic worked out on how but bit worried about id's for new names: is there a pattern or can name numbers be added? Has anyone experimented with that?

Re: Question: Possible to change names of generals?
Instead of a name that ends in _2471234 you can do one that ends in _Janek. Im pretty sure you can't assign name groups to political parties, only factions however.
And for all this you really should use the Assembly Kit as all ID are auto generated and its extremely easy to do this whole process of adding a new name group and assigning it to a faction.
