    Default SLI performance/7950gx2

    Hello - concerns:

I and two other ppl just built identical rigs consisting of:

    Core 2 Duo E6700
Asus P5n32- SLI SE Deluxe Mobo
2 gigs of quality RAM (one with corsair/2 with Gskill)
    7950 gx2 - 1GB
brand new systems, all updated etc

My question is what kind of performance are people getting with MTW 2? At 1680x1050 I get 15 FPS - all settings maxed. Lowering settings only marginally increases the FPS to about 20 fps. Regardless of what settings, my Performance is in the 10-20 FPS range and thats either all settings maxed or lowered to nil....Is this game not optimized for SLI configurations or the 7950gx2? My work machine has 7800 in it, and its performance is identical. I played with vegetation sliders independtly, unit detail etc - I could not get my performace above 20fps or below 10fps. We play other RTS's and shooters with identical, stellar performance.....

Great game, Rome Total War owned a summer of mine, cant wait to play this in allits glory....30 FPS with high settings is prefered though....at least! :hmmm:

yeah sorry - probably should of mentioned - the performance on the other 2 systems were identical - so its not my(our) hardware configs

Im getting about 10FPS or so with all settings maxed running at 1680x1050.

    X2 3800+ @ 2300MHz
    7800GTX 256MB
    1Gig Ram

Didnt one of the devs say the demo was gonna be a beta release or something like that? Meaning not a true example of the final product?

RTW demo was a piece of crap compared to the final release.

Nvidia cards are not good if u but AA and AF to max while u have bloom on, try to but aa and AF (Texture Filtering) to 4x or 6x it should fix ur LAG issue, but u have 7950gx.. jus try it anyway and let me know. or jus put bloof off.

o yea by the way, unit detail should be teh one jus below highest, the unit detail kills fps as well.

How much did you spend on your Geforce7950x?

    I got a gigabyte 7950gx2 for 530.00 US buckos.

I tried various AA and AF settings, bloom off and on. I almost broke the 30 FPS mark with bloom off...still performance is very sketchy. IF i turned everything off (which I have) and got a 50% increase or more - I'd be satisfied with the fact that the game is a system hog and be more conservative with settings. However drastic increases or decreases in the settings never make it run faster than 22 FPS. Highest settings (maxed everything) 12 FPS - lowest or lower settings 20 FPS. There has to be some bottleneck....

Company of Heroes ran like arse 10 FPS....THEN they patched the SLI issue (rather fast I might add - 3-4 days after release) - now I get 25 FPS (camera low to ground looking across database with lots of action) to 100+ FPS. Thats with settings maxed on ultra, 1680x1050...it purrs. So I am hoping that maybe this is a similiar issue...I can make some concessions, but I'd really like to get teh most outta my new rig with MTW 2.

I believe this is because of your Core 2 Duo processor. I and others have had similar FPS and we all have Core 2 Duo's (check the Core 2 Duo thread on the general)

Optimization patches and the final release will probably have your machine performing better.

Sweet rig btw. Gonna OC that beast?

Eventually when I have to....Even with a full size thermaltake tower and enough ventilation to cool Africa the 7950gx2 runs hots.....next year if I feel frisky, water cooling for card and cpu will be in order....Also I will only OC when I have the funds again to replace whatever I blow up.

Technically, a 7950GX2 is performance wise between (1) 7900GTX and (2) 7900GTX's. I have true SLI with (2) 7900GTX's and with shadows off my average FPS during the Parvia Demo is 45-55 FPS and runs as high as 115 FPS during the battle. My processor is an Athlon 4000+ (2.8Ghz)
MTW2 is certainly configured for nVidia's SLI although ATI's Crossfire doesn't work with the Demo....

I'm really suspicious of the shadows...they seem to cause hugely unreasonable hits to performance.

I downloaded it yesterday and played it with different settings, and i have to say that FrameRate is ok but sometimes, when you have the two armies on one screen it lags... (Batttle of Pavia) , but to 95 % i`m at 20 FPS.. thats ok (with max Settings and 1280x1024 4xAA+4xAF)

and i don`t think that the dead bodies are the main FPS-Killing-factor.
when i use shadows at medium or low, there`s not really a difference

    I've a thread posted on Totalwar's forum.

    http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotal...cID=5291.topic

Basically i've found that SLI is not supported in the Demo versions. IF you disable SLI and run off one card you get exactly the same fps as you did with sli enabled.

I'm hoping that an SLI system will have some benefit in the final version.

So you get the same fps with your Über-systems than I get with this? (Sorry, but I feel happy =D) Something's seriously wrong with the demo, maybe there's some kind of limitations that make powerful systems useless.. Full version will be tweaked, without a doubt. I remember having problems with Rome: TW's demo, but the full version worked nicely.

Really, you only get 15FPS? I play at a higher resolution with all settings maxed and get more (20FPS), something must be imparing your performance, I have a slightly slower CPU and a slightly worse GPU (well, that is debatable but CA favour nVidia). But 15FPS is still very smooth. Proper SLI with two cards will be faster, especially two 7950GTX's.
