    Default Advice for beginner

    Greatings general's!
For long time I'm planning to buy Shogun 2, but before I will do it, I need your help. After playing hundreds of hours on other TW series, like medieval, rome 2 and Napoleon, I decided to play something new. My questions are: which version tobuy? The basic one, or the fall of the ssamurai? I had really enjoyed Napoleon, but I don't want the gunpowder to dominate campaign, just few junits for both sides.. the second thing are mods. I'm certain I will download dartmod, but what else? I'm looking for something to play a little bit longer, because I like to take time in campaign, also I heard about some units pack, can you advise me which one of them to download? Which mods will make shogun even more epic? I will be tahnkfull for any help

Well, buy the normal Shogun 2 then. There are two gunpowder units for every faction, so your game won't be dominated by them.
As to mods, try radious mod (not compactible with darthmod!)

There are a lot of additional units mod, so you have the pain to choose which one you like best

So is radious better? I've jused it for rome 2, and darthmod for Napoleon, so I don't really know which one is better. I want the battles to be epic, but I also would like few additional units...

i wouldn't say that radious is better then darthMod.. it's just the matter what you like more.
In darthmod, you have the better battles, while in radious you have the chance to choose from different mods to have, (you can adjust which "sub"mods you want to have in it).
you can install both and give them a try if you like.

Buy the European Gold version and you'll get everything besides the blood DLC.

Depends on what you want to have. Shogun II is very arcadish and unhistorical. Judging by your Stainless Steel banner, I presume you are interested in realism mods? In that case, you could try out DaVinci's Realism+ mods for Shogun II and Rise of the Samurai.
    My Mod:
    Shogun II Total Realism
A realism mod for Shogun II, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai

I think I will start with darthmod than and than I will try radious for more units. I'm still not certain though whether to try fots or normal version.. will the battles be more like in Napoleon in Fots? I mean not only gunpowder units, but mostly? Which one give you more fun to play?

Fots has a alot of melee units still, but players tend to build napeoleon-like armies tough.

    i prefer the standard shogun2.

And what about time limit? Do I really have a race with time to conquer the provinces?

buy shogun 2 and play the trom 3 mod .. for me the best mod for s2 .. About fots, it's really funny to play but battles are just putting a few ranged units and cannons and win everything .. I made a mod for solving that (still being updated) ..
In conclusion, buy s2 with all the dlc first, then if you can buy fots (it's really fun) (but please dont buy the dlc for it, they are just trash)

Well, it's really tough choice.. I've just checked what Rom 3 is and it is pretty impressive... Can you tell me how is it better than dartmod or radious?

in my personal point of view, shogun2 total war gold edition, worth it, and for the mod i use darthmod.
you will get a whole new experience in shogun2.

"If you are careless, you will die."
    "Kill or be killed."

I just bought shogun 2 gold edition, but it seems that you can't buy the gold edition as a steam code, they only deliver it at home as disc version, so you'll actually have to live in Europe to buy it. The American version I could buy with a steam code, but that didn't include all the dlc's (which are still pretty expensive on steam and aren't sold anymore in the most webshops for keys).

So if you happen to live in Europe, buy the whole packet for 25 or 30 euro, don't know about price differences between countries, but if you search arround the whole package is cheaper then just the main game on steam :S

For mods I usually play the game in vanilla first, so that I know how the game is and what I'm missing. Otherwise you don't really know what you are searching for as I usually use mods to make the game better, but for that I need to know the game first. Everybody has it's own favorite, so advicing mods is always though and eventually you're the only one that knows what's the perfect mod for you, so you could ask for suggestions, but if I were you I would at least test the 3 most suggested mods to see which one of those fits you the best.

I think you should start with the basic and then buy Otomo, Sengoku Jidai, Saints and Heroes, Ikko Ikki, FOTS, Rise
