    Default Real Shields Project v0.33 (For use with Western Unit Overhaul)



    The purpose of this add on is to bring the wonderful models that Geminy Sandy make for us into the next level. Every factions' shield is based on real medieval findings, paints and now days recreations. The project will be finished in 3 packages.

    a) The first package will include shields for the sergeants, mailed knights, feudal knights, mercs and some unic militias ( italian spear militias, swordsmen militias, irish etc )

    b) The next will include noble, chivalric and special units

    c) and the third will include unic body and armor textures for almost every unit + shields for different rebels ( ex. rebel italian spear militias will have symbols and heraldry from cities other than sicilians, longobard and venice).

    DOWNLOAD "Real shield project 0.33"

    read the instructions, the only file that you need to buck-up is "battle_models.modeldb" since all textures files have different names. have fun

    Taiji : Thanks for the rep, that you make the thread sticky and the instractions ( with the last ones you save yourself from at least 2 more unnoing pm !

    Hellvard : Thank you for the rep. Poland in DLV uses different and unic models, that represent better the mix between eastern and western influence in arms and armor. Despite that i believe that some models like "dismounted stretzly" (or something like that) should share the "pavise crossbowmen" model (with more polish textures offcourse) since they dont have anything special according to atributes and can free a slot for a more unic unit. I will write a few suggestions that i have in a different thread.

    Allright, I understand that. Will you make new shields textures for knight's orders? And is your project open source, like Sandy's?

    I believe that Gemini Sandy is planning to releash knight order units in the future, since my textures are add - on for his models sounds right to wait till his releash. You can use them where you want, a credit should be fine.

    You are doing an excellent job nikossaiz.

    Just one criticism, some of the heraldry is a bit inaccurate. The hungarian knights with the blue shield and yellow eagle and cross actually have the coat of arms of wallachia. I would suggest the use of coat of arms of hungarian houses such as garay, lackfi, hunyadi, bathori etc.

    Thank you for your kind words. As your name sagggest you know better, but i believe wallachia was not formed as a seperate region kingdom during 1180 and was part of the bulgarian and hungarian ones. So, because of that, i choose at least one future wallachian heraldry to be in the hungarian army. maybe i will trunsfer it to a more late level unit! but i like that you point that out and i will look the houses you propose and in the new releash will be in

    wallachian heraldry in the hungarian native army, I say no to this ; but some AOR units for balkans area will be a nice adition to the game( maybe a discussion with Tsardoms team could solve this...)

    on the hungarian feudal knights photo, next to wallachian heraldy, first line ,on the left i see moldavian heraldy, red shield with bull; i hope you will eliminate it also.
    Maybe Wallachian can be more precisely, I hope I'm not wrong.

    Non taken! I picked heraldry by region mostly and not 100% by ethnicity . The time frame of DLV is from 1180 till 1400 sommething, then, many houses ended and new ones emerged were the old one were, also Many blended with others. Same with nations, Take the english and the french or Kingdom of sicily for example. The founder of the kingdom of sicily was roge, a norman adventurer, but the flags of its faction in DLV is the eagle of the house of hohenstaufen merged with the stripes of the aragon kingdom.The aragonese king was ruler of sicily after 1300 and aragon isnt even present on DLV. But i like those flags. So, Locality is a factor. Maybe i will tranfer the shields to a more advanced unit. since wallachia and moldavia were formed as a political state within the DLV time frame i want them to be there. This is just my way of thinking, i like that you said your opinion and i will be glad if you say it again!

    Does enyone know if medieval England used spearmen armed with pavise shields like north italians and french did? I made pavisses for the english men but i am not sure if they actually had such spearmen. I believe since french did, english would follow
