Too much lag, need help!!

While playing the demo of Mediveval 2 I noticed I had lots of lag. I need help trying to figure out why. I dont know too much about the technical stuff so can somebody let me know how I can find all the necessary info on my laptop. I know have a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 graphics card, intel duo core 2.00 Ghz processor and only 1 Gb of Ram. Thats all I know. What can I do to help with the lag. Maybe get more Gb of Ram or what?

I will do a test like the article in my sig for the demo but download Fraps and tell me what are your fps in the beginning of the Agincourt battle where the camera is at its highest overseeing all the units as the 2 units of knights charge your forces, then I can diagnoise your computer. But off hand, my first guess will be your procesor as the bottleneck.

The fps stayed at 6 when the knights charged over open field. When there was actually hand to hand combat it was 5 and 6.

Wow, that is like wow. What other applications are you running at the time?

I didn't have any other applications running. How do I check to see if my Processor Speed is all the way up? I played a custom battle in RTW with everything maxed out graphics wise and it was running between 15 and 20. When I got in close to the fighting it stayed around 10. So whats your opinion?

With your laptop, that may be the problem, as laptop video cards are not as good as desktop cards. Combined with heat and your slow processor (RTW is processor dependent) that may be it. What are the settings under graphic options?

EDIT: I have a Athlon XP 2200+ laptop running at 1.05 GHz as I speak instead of the 1.8 on the box, so I am sure your processor is not running at 2.0 Ghz, which is causing the most of your problems.

For the demo I did the auto detect and it put the graphics on medium settings, with most of the advanced options on high. How can I cool my laptop down? Do you think i should think about getting a new processor some time?

Changing processors in a laptop is a pain, espeically if the processor is sodered onto the board. Also, I see you just replied, check my edit above.

I also have quite a bit of lag and am not very good with techinical stuff. I no i have a pentium 4 3.4 GHz proecssor, 1Gb of ram and a Radeon X600 256 MB Hyper Memory what do i need to do to get rid of the lag to make the game run extremely well. I am alos buying a new computer and opened a thread about it but didnt understand some of the things people said about waht to buy

Btw my Fps was 7 or 8 wwhen the knights charged but went down to 5 when they engaged and i turned to view from the french knights perspective looking towards my army.

I was thinking the same thing but how do I speed up my processor??? BTW I put the graphics oon low with the adanced options having a mixture of low to high settings and it was running very smoothly with basically no lag. The game still looked great too. I had my unit settings on high, texture on medium, vegatation on medium, grass on low, effects on low, anti-alias thing on x4 and it looked and ran great. If i could speed my processor up that help out a lot.

I have never OC'd a notebook processor, nor would I advise it as it would produce more heat, and may blow up. I would not advise it nor would I recommend it.

I get much better comp but also get lags on Cossacs2 expansion the guys say that we people with dualcore must get fix from Mic-soft you can find topic in technical forum called 'dualcore fix'
