    Default Pressing euro/dollar keys quickloads last save

    So above left and right arrow keys on keyboard I have euro and dollar keys... Accidentally pressing one of them results in: Help scroll and console appear, character and settlement names are toggled, sound was un-muted and most importantly last savegame is quickloaded... At least from what I could observe...

    Tried some applications that would detect the keys I press and disable them. But they didn't work in the game at least...

    Is there any way to disable these keys from M2tw or completely disable them, besides ripping them of my laptop's keyboard?

    Edit : Uh just realized maybe I should post / ask to move this thread in The Basement subforum?

    Do a deep antivirus scan?

    I would appreciate a screenshot for this. Also try setting your keyboard to English (US) version in keyboard settings in control panel.

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    It already is in EN US.

    If you asked for a screenshot of the game, well I forgot to mention it also takes a PrintScreen (so makes a tga screenshot) and here it is

    I don't remember these keys even working normally, as in a text file or in browser, no symbol appears...

    Edit: And no, it's not just this mod, it's whole M2tw

    Edit the shortcuts via options - simply add a function key to those keys that bother you, eg $ --> Ctlr+$

    Or apply stuff from my latest tutorial and do it that way, the thought being that removing all the definitions might remove the key board short cut completely: Creating a World - Changing hidden key board settings

    1) How do I do that? Dollar/euro aren't used for anything so how can I add ctrl to it? I tried to change a shortcut from it's default letter to either of these 2 keys and also ctrl+ one of the keys, but nothing happens as if I didn't press anything...

    2) Is this the same as I said at 1) or I'm missing something?

    If these buttons you mention are linked to a certain function then chances are that they are linked to the original key setting.
    I do however get the impression that you have several, different function linked to one button, dependent on how often you press it. Could you post\link to a picture of the keyboard that you have and then describe the action that follows if you press one of these buttons one time?

    Just to plug the holes: do you have this problem with the plain vanilla game as well?

    I'm sorry I don't know much about these things and don't quite understand what you say...

    As for your 2 questions I already answered in posts above... Pressing one of them is as if I would press all at once: F1 (help scroll), ~ for console, PrtSc for screenshot, Ctrl+N, Ctrl+T for toggling settlement and character names on strat map, Ctrl+L for quick load. As for 2) I said it's for whole M2tw, vanilla, mods.

    This is how it looks except windows key was windows 8 symbol and symbols are white, not blue. I'm running windows 7 64
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Pressing these keys anywhere I can write, notepad, Word, does not give anything... Tried with combinations of ctrl, alt and [Fn]...

    Right, now it's clear. Thanks for the patience.

    I'll have a look if I can find something on how to disable those keys. It's weird that one key should combine all those functions. I do have a feeling that it has to do with the game engine itself as the game wasn't really designed with laptops in mind.

    As a matter of interest: do you have the same effects if you press the dollar sign below the F4 button (SHIFT+4)?

    Some stuff I found:

    Already tried Sharp Keys and Map Keyboard, didn't work, these programs apparently do the same thing, disables or changes their function in registry, didn't help so I guess it's not possible and it's because of the game engine...

    No problem, thanks for trying

    I just realized I'd better change arrow keys to wasd so I don't accidentally press you know what. But I remember when I tried to change a shortcut from a letter to another, instead of replacing the original it added a second shortcut... Is it possible to change manual through descr_shortcuts? But would this mean I have to add it to every mod data folder? I fear it might not pass the data validation in hotseats so it would be useless in this case

    Oh great it's not even possible

    While I'm at it, I play in windowed mode but usually when I switch back to the game, mouse doesn't work, cursor is there but clicking just does nothing. And I have to alt+tab twice to make it work. Would the autoborderless_mode (or however it's spelled) = true line in cfg help with this?

    The windowed mode eases the pain of Alt tabbing - it may help here as well:

    [video]
    windowed = true ; window mode
    borderless_window = true ; max window size without borders

    Apparently it works. But it made the window too big, going under the taskbar, can see just top part of unit cards from 2nd row (units from 10 to 20) and can't see amount of money in bottom right

    So there is no way to change arrow keys to wasd?

    Edit: Thank God, arrow keys on numpad work!

    Edit2: Lowered resolution of game to minimum, width lowered but height is still maximum of laptop's desktop resolution...

    Adjust the screen size within the options of the game to your actual screen's size, alternatively use these lines in your mod's CFG (vanilla CFG rewrites values entered by hand unless made read-only):
    Code:
    [video]
    battle_resolution = 1920 1080
    campaign_resolution = 1920 1080
    resolution = width height

    WASD - I think you should be able to change the arrows to those keys via options, in fact one of the presets there might have that already. If there is no preset then you may however have reassign the functions linked to those keys (if any).

    I've looked in all presets in options and also in descr_shortcuts, there are no "Move left" etc set to arrow keys which I could then change to wasd. For moving around the map, the arrow keys, both regular and those on numpad, are hardcoded it seems.

    Damn programs did something to my laptop, had to use system restore a 2nd time today :/

    On my keyboards and stuff the fn button always did the same as you describe (between control and windows button) does it for you? Ill admit ive usually live with it, but having them above arrow keys seems to be a hassle.

    i think it has something to do with those buttons not being buttons, but more of instructions for other buttons, like the $ button is the same as pressing ctrl alt and 4. and fn is the same as doing some random stuff on the computer.

    For me Fn button works without any problem. And pressing shift+4 which gives $ doesn't do anything to the game...

    Adjust the screen size within the options of the game to your actual screen's size, alternatively use these lines in your mod's CFG (vanilla CFG rewrites values entered by hand unless made read-only):
    Game seems to refuse to use heights below 768, uses it no matter line in cfg, can't set resolution of laptop to higher than 768 neither, now what :/

    Try adjusting your laptop as close as possible to a resolution that is accepted by the game. In most cases this actually a problem of the ration, not the size.
    For example if your resolution is extremely wide then a nearly square (game) resolution in windowed mode will drop below your screen.
    Using the 'wide screen' option in the game's options may work\help as well.
