    Default Quick Question

In order to play M2TW I am going to buy a new processor, uprgading from an AMD Athlon 2800+.
I just need to know if this will work:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103535
If not, could someone point me in the right direction of buying the right one?

Is there a big difference between the two?
Because if there is I'll go for the more expensive one.

I would go with the cheaper one. The difference is pretty small, since the San Diego core's extra 512kb of L2 cache makes up for the lower clock speed.

    Hold on a second!

    "AMD Athlon 2800+", that's socket A isn't it?
The processors you have been looking at are all socket 939, make sure it's compatible with your existing system.

So I need to look for one that is compatible with an A socket?

Then you can only install socket A processors.

Sadly you already have about the fastest socket A processor available, so there is very little room for improvement.

Except if you buy a new mobo, but then you have to make sure your RAM and video card are compatible too.

I'm in about the same situation as you are.
I have an Athlon 3000+ socket A processor, AGP video card (Radeon 9600 pro), and pc2700 DDR RAM.
I have already figured that I'm completely done upgrading.
Instead I'm just saving up for a completely new system with PCIe and DDR2.

Ugh, I just wanted to spend a little, not hundreds.

Would a mobo be a cheaper way?

Like AlfonsoVIII said, you are going to need a new mobo AND a new processor.
Maybe you can keep your RAM, but not if you want one of the newest mobo's available (and you do because then it takes longer before you run into the same problem again).

IF you have Socket A, you should buy a new mobo, procesor and keep your memory. Only buy a 939 socket processor and processor as you can keep your memory. What does CPUz say your RAM is and the amount.

If he goes with keeping the memory, going 939 is the way to go, but with current pricing, AM2 is virtually the same, although he has to buy new memory. So another choice has to be made.

Then it's a difficult choice: keep your RAM and go for last-years mobo, with little support for future processors
Or spend some extra on DDR2 and have a mobo that has better upgrade posibilities.

Don't forget you wil also need a new video card, because your new mobo won't have an AGP slot.
(it's a pain, I know, like I said I'm in the same situation)

I can't make the choice for you, but personally I'm saving up for a complete new system, including new RAM (I have 756MB) and possibly even a new harddisk.
It's a shame for M2TW, because I probably won't be able to play it for at least 6 months.
