    Default Illyrians....Underpowered...???

    Hi DEI team,

Again...THANK YOU for this wonderful mod!

I'm playing as the Illyrians & to be frank with you they are terrible insofar as battlefield stats seems to be concerned:

    I tested them (5 units: 1 elite, 4 non elite:spear & melee) vs. the Suebi (elite & non-elite) & I got slaughtered.

Can you look into this please?

    Thanks,
    hellas1

There are three Illyrian factions. Can't comment on the Delmatae or the Daorsi, but the AI Ardiaei always seem to go on a rampage across Greece in my games, so no lack of power there.

The Ardaei are just a Zerg army.

They have mostly light infantry, they are not made for long fights, rather fast ambushes, skirmishes and flanking.

Illyrians will be expanded in the future, but, as Scythion said they had not heavy units (at last in the first period) and relied mostly on hit and run tactics to win.

After the greek reforms they will have thorax units and as such they will be more resilient.

However, as I said, we will expand the rosters of Illyrians in the future and give them an active reform (instead as of now that it is "indirect" in the sense that the reformed units get available when the worldwide greek reforms happens; we did it this way for now because atm they don't have a roster that enables them to have a pure reform).

Thank you....See, this is the reason why MODS make the Total War series & R2TW is probably the last Total War game I buy.

hellas1.............CA, NEEDS to break off all ties with Sammy Sega

Cant wait for 1.0 and a even more pronounced faction strength / faction weakness unit balance!!!! Thats the #1 point of why DeI rocks (+ all the added historical units) for me, even though its still in its early-mid phase.

In most my campaigns they seem to steamroll over anyone in Greece. Heck, I was Sparta and they demolished me. Of course, I suck in this mod it seems. Every faction around me in any play always seems to want to go to war with me. And thus, I am quickly killed off. I had one good playthrough with Massalia and that was dumb luck because every faction around me were warring with each other and forgot about me.

Ardei AI always stomps Epirus then fights for Greece, and I played it on L/L a month back, had 3 provinces, several military allies and vassals, and yes, army is mostly light infantry, but if you have some skills on battlemap, you can easily win, Illyrian hoplites can surely stand their ground, while Illyirian archers simply anhiliate cavalary, I mean, hippies would be routed in 1 perfect volley!

They were historically light-infantry faction so I quite think they are made good in DeI, even tohuhg Peirets and pillagers look same :/

They're always very successful when controlled by the AI in my campaigns. Although I haven't faced them in battle yet, so I can't comment on how their unit quality fairs, although I'm counting on my Marian legionnaires showing them who's boss of the Mediterranean.

Both the Thracians and Illyrians will be touched up for 0.9. That said, the Illyrians will never have the sort of military muscle that its Greek neighbours boasts. Though once they have received proper reform support, they will be able to more effectively field well-rounded armies in the late game. The same goes for the Thracians. In general, Illyrian and Thracian units will be less disciplined and more aggressively oriented than the Greeks, which makes them inherently more difficult to play as they're not supposed to be able to last as long in battle.
