Yeah, there's still some visual difference (and I believe some small statistical ones too) depending on where they were recruited, but they no longer have the names or standards of "historical" legions attached to them. Though there is the official sub-mod for that.
Hmm, well, I'm only going off of what Selea's said...
seeing as, unfortunately, Steam has yet to properly update my Rome 2, and I can't check for myself...Removed regional Legionaries numbers, signa and emblems but kept attributes and visual differences. All Legionaries are now called "Legionarii" and/or "Cohors Legionaria".
Maybe it's some bug on your end?

They are not the same.
I removed the signa, emblems and specific shields. The rest is the same as before.
Naturally the shield was the most evident difference between the Legions, so making it standard they seem much more similar.
It can be that at last the shield I will put again Legion specific (it is just a matter of changing the name of the definition in the variants table) but I put it generic because the shields were tied specifically to the type of Legion (differently from other visual differences).
Yeah, same here, I don't see visual differences anymore.Northern EuropeLegions have better statistics than Southern Legions...(and I believe some small statistical ones too) depending on where they were recruited,
As I said, the fact that the shields are the same doesn't mean that those units are the same.
Granted the differences are minimal now given the lack of different shields but they are there.
However since I don't want to have 25 threads from now on of you complaining about "no different Legions" I will put back the different shields.

Ok, if you download the file now the Legions will have the varied shields as before, so you are sure to note the differences![]()
Hehe I feel sorry for you Selea! Have to go one way or the other and still people complaining! I don't get what people want for this... Either we have beautifully detailed historical legions or we have them looking similar for people who want to role play and make their own legions! Maybe the numbers can be removed but insignia kept in with the name as a good compromise... Eg legio Hisp on shields and standards but no number? If people want their own named legion they should recruit the default legionnaires. I know I will be downloading the sub mod with the names back in as it is the whole point of playing with various legions and I like to play historically. I don't get why people are complaining about this excellent addition to the game? They should have a sub mod with no Unique legions and see how fun it is...
anyway love over the hard work you guys have put into making this Mod great!
As a compromise I have now given the old different shields back.
As for people complaining about the different Legions names they actually had a point on the fact that a stack in Rome II is not an army but a Legion, and as such no different Legions were present inside one historically. No matter from where you recruited Legio X always was Legio X, it didn't have inside itself Legio V or Legio III.
If it would have been possible I would have made it that the correct Legion type was automatically selected depending on the "master" Legion you have, but sadly this is completely impossible to do, so we have to have a compromise on this point between different looks and same Legion type.
So long as the variety of shield designs doesn't have particular legion names plastered all over them, I wouldn't think it'd be a problem.
Sadly that I cannot know. I will not surely put myself removing the numbers from the shields if they are there.
Maybe we will do it later (for 1.0) but not now.
People, we have to reach a compromise here. There are people that want the variations and people that don't want them and we are in the middle.
Yes, Seleas solution sounds like a good compromise. People who like different look & feel of their legions can have it. People which dont like the idea to get cohorts in their legion with different names, don't get it. And all can name their legions, how they like, or how it is historically correct according to the point of time or stage of progression.
Of course, shields should have no legion numbers on them. Actually we know near to nothing about republican shield paintings and just a bit about early imperial ones. Just for the late empire we know a lot due to the Notitia Dignitatum. So for the given timeframe shield paintings are mostly just look & feel anyways. I don't care about shield paintings without legion numbers.

All in time with the polishing of 1.0 then, I suppose. That's gonna be intense, the hype keeps growing.
I sincerely don't know if the shields have numbers in them or not, because the textures come from Caesar's mod. I sincerely hope that he didn't add numbers to the shields (also because it would not make much sense; I don't think that Legions carried "numbered" shields or that shields with numbers even existed at all).
If he did we would have to manually variate the textures ourselves and this take some time, and in the future days we have much more impelling matters at hand...
Well, let's hope that the shields are just different but don't have numbers attached to them (I doubt so, frankly, but you never know...)
Although as an aside, Rome is the last faction I'll go to when I want variety in both stack composition and unit visuals.
