Default Why are there so many updates? It's hard to complete a single campaign

Hello, I'd like to say this is a great mod - but I only play it online and find it frustrating that whenever me and a friend have played a lot of one campaign, but then have to end it abruptly because of a new DeI update. We both downloaded it via Steam, is there any way around this?

Yes, just download DEI manually (via mediafire) and then simply avoid updating it. Also make sure to set Rome 2 to not auto update or else the next official TW patch may screw up your save.

EDIT: And the reason there are so many updates is because this is a beta, notice how we're not at version 1.0 yet? This means this is the time for a lot of trial and error, to ensure that 1.0 is the best possible 'balanced' release.

This will be the last update for a while.

I had to update the mod a last time for this version for the Legionaries, elsewhere I would not have done it.

If there was an option to turn off the auto-update on the Steam Workshop, I'd definitely use it!

Nobody says you have to update , Wait for a 1.0 version if you want a more or less completed version of DEI.

If you own the Steam version it auto-updates automatically. You cannot decide to "no update".

In theory it is a very good the system (because it auto-updates always giving you the last build to play with, so the most recent version), but in practice it is a nightmare since the workshop is so slow and bugged. If it worked well then it would be great but as it is it is just frustrating most of the times.

Thankyou for your quick replies. Good idea, me and my friend will turn off the auto-update on Steam.

    Keep up the good work!

It´s a huge project and therefore bugs are inevitable and fixing them sooner than later is a good thing I think.

I thought unless otherwise stated all dei updates are save game compatible. Is the MP campaign different?

For my part i don't care about the frequent updates especially since there is non-steam version that you can DL if you dislike the updates, it's nice that the team is that reactive.

They're save game compatible anyway, unless stated otherwise

Maybe the non-Steam version is save game compatible, but everyone time me and a friend have updated we crash either when loading the save, ending the first turn after loading up, or quickly into the session randomly.

Hmm that is strange, but as I haven't played a multiplayer campaign I can't comment unfortunately. As I say though, just delete the steam version and download the mediafire version. That plus no auto update will allow you to play the campaign to it's conclusion (Hopefully).

Have you noticed this recently? The last few MAJOR updates had things that could mess with save games but these smaller updates shouldn't mess with them. That said I agree, don't use steam version and disable auto update on steam and you'll be fine.

    This.

And issues originating from MP are more likely than not to be caused by the instability of the MP client as a whole. TW has never handled MP campaigns particularly well, with desynchronization and crashing being abundant ever since the original beta-release for multiplayer campaigns on ETW. 4 years after implementing the concept of multiplayer campaigns they've still yet to get the foundations properly layed out.

When I played my campaigns with my friend we'd always take care to keep 3 or so manual saves gradually further back from each other in addition to the auto-saves. Luckily the game wasn't crashing or desync'd too frequently to completely stop play and we managed to actually finish a few and get fairly far in others, with most of the saves being reliable and not requiring a reload of prior saves to continue playing.
