    Default GEM? (Help please)

I feel like a complete idiot, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this to work. I followed the steps posted on http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...Version-4-5-1), but nothing seems different. What am I doing wrong? Can someone give me a better step by step? I see no files that I can tweak in my game folder, just a GEM folder with three files in it.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for being an idiot.

Okay firstly does GEM show up in your mods?

    Yes, it's there.

Ok well I recommend switching to true colours, as with the standard improvements I saw little difference. To do this go into your R2 folder and double click on GEM settings. Then change true colours to 1, and turn realistic to 0. You may also want to change Gemblur to 0 as it is really annoying and imo pointless.

That's my problem though. I don't have any GEM settings file, just a folder named GEM with three files: Common.dll, GEMUpdate.bat, and pfm.exe.

The gem settings text is in rome 2 folder not in the gem folder,al least for me.I had the same question with you and I found it there.

Ah then you didn't follow the GEM instructions: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...Version-4-5-1)

Gotta download the installer (One time) and then subscribe to GEM.

    Shortcut to the installer:

Yep. You've got to download and run the installer, and then subscribe to GEM on Steam Workshop. You must do both of those things, or it won't work.

I DID download and run the installer and all it did was create the GEM folder.

You have to do run GEMSteamInstaller in your Rome Total War II folder. then you will have
    gem setting.txt file.

Just to clarify the above post of any vagueness, as I had a slight misunderstanding and expected it to be the GEM folder and missed it the first time. The 'gemsetting.txt' file is found in the Rome 2 Total War main directory. This should be " (Your Drive):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Rome II"

It will not be found in a sub-folder of any kind unless you misdirected the install or something.

If you still can't find it, either the install didn't work or you can try "windows search" ...

Okay, I'm not a complete idiot. I know how to install things to my Rome 2 folder.

This is literally what my Rome 2 folder looks like AFTER running the installer. I'll try redownloading it and see if that works.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

edit: Just tried it, same result. I guess I'm just SOL.

edit 2: Well now I'm afraid I may have to retract my statement that I'm not a complete idiot. For some reason the .exe file was the wrong one to run. After running the one directly below it, it appears to have created the files. Thanks for your help and patience guys.

Haha no problem friend, I'm glad that was the case, as now you can experience the full beauty of GEM! Also might be worth trying Aztec's lighting mod too, and maybe seeing which filter you like in the GEM settings.

Hello I am having a similar problem to the OP, I have no gem settings text file to edit. I have downloaded and extracted GEM to the RomeII folder: ProgramFiles(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/RomeII. Also subscribe to GEM on steam workshop

When I try to launch the GEMsteamInstaller (the one directly below GEMsteamInstaller.exe) I get a message saying 'PmfCL has stopped working' and nothing else changes.

Anyone have any idea what is going wrong? Help massively appreciated.

You guys should probably try posting this in the GEM main thread.
