    Default Massalia?

    I'm playing a Massalian campaign.
All good and bright , I conquered Pollentia from Carthage(the island) , and then Sagunton.
I was preparing a stack to further banish Carthage from Iberia , then boom !
4 roman stacks (my allies) besieged Massalia. 4 STACKS !
I retreated my forces from Iberia , made an elite stack and won against the 4 stacks.
It was a phyrric victory. My faction leader and heir died , and I was left with 53 men. 53 MEN !
Afterwards , Carthage besieged Sagunton with a half stack , I managed to defend it with 3 units.
I then formed another stack , tock Emporiun(i think) and a roman island (Cagliari).
Now , my forces are depleted and I'm left with 325 denarii. 325 DENARII !
Sagunton will be conquered , Massalia will fall soon as the romans and readying 3 stacks , Gallaeci will attack Emporium with 2 stacks wich they have prepared and yes.
I'll be left with 2 islands.

What am I to do ?

Please , I require immediat assistance.
Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack !

I would guess Rome wanted to take Emporae as it belonged to them. And you looked weak, probably.

Since Massalia has your treasury, your income will drop a ton if you lose it. Hmm. Yeah if that is pretty much lost, so is the campaign.

You can use forts on the narrow passes to the east which blocks Rome). A narrow pass, a fort with some bait in it, and a stack with a ballista unit and tons of slingers will make mincemeat of Roman stack after Roman stack. Similarly, ballista can help with taking any settlement with only wooden walls.

So , if I manage to make and army using those 2 islands , could I be able to take it back ?

The two islands wouldn't provide you with enough income to keep even half a stack I think ...

I wouldn't say impossible (as The Player is magical) but it would be quite unlikely to be able to take and defend it against all the Roman stacks that will probably be going though that area.

You should focus on taking Rome out before anything else, cause they keep spawning tonnes a stacks.

Complete pains in the ass. All I'd ever want to do as Massalia is turtle, keep building a small trading empire around southern France. But noooo. Gotta get attacked by 20k Romans every other turn.

The Massalian campaign is admittedly hard. You have some very powerful neighbors, and they don't like you.

    Sounds like a worthy challenge...

Though I like the idea of Syracuse with massive levy armies better

Massalia means lots of battles and few money. I have a save from last year, 1-turn, I really enjoyed that campaign as far as I remember (I noticed that there are a total of 217 battles, quite a bit for the territory in the pic). I don't recall exactly how I expanded, but there are cities that do not have useful buildings - I razed them several times, you will have to rely on this form of income (I have set my eyes on Gergovia early on, by the way, it's pretty close). The army in the pic was involved in wars against Arverni, Gallaeci and then Carthage I believe (against Romans you should rely more on slingers). At that point I was making quite some money, even with not so many buildings, so hopefully you can have an idea how things will be in/with this situation/territory. Well, good luck with them Massalians!

As Massalia, you should take out Rome asap. Makes it much much easier.

It's funny because you always want to murder Rome as fast as possible, the chances of ever seeing the fancy legions is nearly 0 unless you're on the other side of the map (even then...) or are actually the romans.
