The demo: play as the french?

Just a question:
can you play as the french in the demo?
Or are you stuck to play with the english?
(wouldnt surprise me tbh)

Nope, no french. Hope some mods or editors come out soon though. But everything is heavily packed, and uncracked till now.

I always considered the french abit more nationalistic concerning this special relationship they have. However, if this is true, how sad are English

They are very sad. Very, very sad. Very, very very very very sad. Crying, almost.

I would like all historical battles to allow the player to play the historically losing side - much more fun.

Last i checked EA had nothing at all to do with the total war series.

Nice try though.... maybe next time your going to slag CA you will get their name right at least.

Anyhow, yes it would be great to be able to mod the demo and all that jazz, but demos dont get made so that people can unlock material they are supposed to get only in the full game.

I was a bit dissapointed about this as well.
I can't see why it would be such a big deal to let us play as the French in the Agincourt battle.
But I suppose CA had reasons.

I just wanted to know if the demo will let me get an idea of how funny and immersion-killing their yells will be. Aren't there any Frenchies around here somewhere?

oh come on!
Things are not as simple.
Frogs were quite poweful during all middle age, even if they had (and still have) a country difficult to defend.

In fact they were so strong that they conquered the brits...
And england was under control of the Duke of Normandy, vassal of the King of France :tooth:
may I remind you that english kings and nobility spoke FRENCH until the XVIth century, mmm?!

Underestimate as much as you like France's power during WW II, it seems to be a national sport in the states, am I right?
But avoid to do it for all other periods of the french history. They were pretty mighty at their time, one of the most powerful nation in the world (economy, influence and military), if not the most powerful.

You do realize that the historical battle follows what actually happened, and not what could have. Whats the purpose of having historical armies and battlefeilds if its not used in the historical way? We have yet to see anything that shows how much the AI has improved, at least in Agincourt.

English forget often France has had always an strong military history and I think if they have often bach France perhaps it was the consequence of the fact they lost the 100 years war with all their French lands.

The frustration makes always narrowminded people.

You will never learn to speak any other language than your own. I pity you. Also, subtitles are not stupid. I have them to thank for much of my knowledge of English.

Anyway, what do you need subtitles for in a game like M2TW? In what part of the game does anyone say anything that you don't understand from the context/situation, not counting pre-battle speeches (which are subtitled) and advisors (which my mod won't touch)? Besides, I don't understand what you're complaining about - the vanilla version of the game is completely in English, leaving those of us who appreciate lingual variation with no alternative to hearing our own factions speak broken English, which I personally find disrespectful - not because they're not speaking their native languages, but because they're being ridiculed on behalf of the Anglo-monophonic world.
