Thanks to all! Currently toying with my graphics setup a bit. I gave Orbis Terrarum another go and I'm liking it this time. I think I just have to screw around with my GEM settings because it's mostly the slightly cold lighting you see in my screens that annoys me. I'm assuming there's no compatible mod that could change the in-game lighting but if I'm wrong let me know.

Icarus what graphic mod do you use with GEM? Maybe it affects the lighting in the game. I tried Aztec graphic mod, but probably refuse it. I do not like too dark or too light lighting in the game and I try to find a middle ground, but it is difficult especially if you use some additional graphic mod in the game. I come to the conclusion that in my case I need to give up graphic mods and rely only on GEM and ReShade settings. By the way, everyone has different ideas about graphic effects. I like the clarity and sharpness, for example. I keep experimenting with my settings and looking for the best image for me. I think you know what settings are responsible for lighting the game in GEM and ReShade. Try working with them. Personally, my experience shows that graphic mods changing the lighting in the game is not always what you need.

Guys, for the lightning you may also want to check D.E.I. Graphics Enhancement. The lightning in that mod is based on Aztec, as far as I know, and Gerula has kept it up-to-date. Personally, I like that mod very much.

Well guys, AFAIK Aztec is not longer supported or updated so I would stay away from it. As for Gerula's lighting, I'm not sure how it will play with GEM or if it's appropriately updated for the latest game's version.

Judging by the recent comments on his workshop page, Gerula seems to keep his mod up-to-date.

I'm using it together with GEM and can't really complain about the results. Quite the opposite, they seem to complement each other very well. Though, one needs obviously the right preset for it.

    Nice, Icarus, very nice!

#2 and 3 is the night battle, right? Looks actually quite different than mine, more bright and 'pale'.

#1 and 2; I've noticed very strong distortion effect there. Is that vanilla distortion or something something else?

I'm not too sure if it counted as a night battle or a "fog" battle if that exists, I was defending so didn't get to choose. No one had any torches out anyway

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by distortion either, but it's probably a combination of things. I know that I upped my anti-aliasing settings for the latter ones.

Yes, indeed, they bear no torches. It must be the 'fog' battle then as you said. Contrary to what one should expect, these foggy battlefields don't look so appealing in terms of graphics, unfortunately. CA have recently made some improvements to the night battle environments, but these are still below par I would say.

The distortion effect is one of those filters you can check in your graphics panel. It makes the distant landscape look blurry as on some of these pictures you've posted above.

Noticed a lack of naval snaps in this thread. So here's some from a little pirate hunting I did in the black sea.

Nice ones man! . Was this battle part of a campaign you have going? I've noticed you mostly post Romani.

    Thanks Icarus.
Yes, this battle is part of my campaign for Rome. For various reasons, I never managed to finish the Roman campaign. This company is third or fourth, can't remember exactly. With the release of new patches and updates for DEI, I started a new campaign by changing the economy strategy, military technology and expansion plans. Now I have enemies in all factions except the Hellenes who look at me and think to declare war on me or not. I don't have enough legions and fleets to block all possible intrusions. Let's see how long I can hold out this time.) When I pass the campaign for Rome, I will be ready to consider other factions to pass.

Haha I know what you mean. I've started quite a few different campaigns as both the Antigonids and Roma over the last few months. A bit common but they are my favourite factions. I'm really a bigger fan of the Polybian Roman army so I tend to lose interest after I get big enough for those reforms to fire. Planning to carry this current campaign to the end though .

    Anyway, some more screens.
