Retraining question

If I retrain troops with gold armor upgrade in a settlement that can only give silver, do they drop a level in armor, or are they replenished with their current armor upgrade level intact?

Interesting question. I assume they would replenish as silver, however it might factor in the ratio of missing men like it does when you merge units with different armor upgrades and experience levels.

So perhaps if only 5% are retrained maybe they retain a gold armor rating.

Either way, back to the fortress they go. They're all pretty depleted.
