Re: AVI Video
You need a te corret sofware installed to play AVI files, media player isnt enough. Put simply, not all AVI files are the same, and they mostly all require specific software so they can be decoded by your media player - such software is refered to as a 'Codec'. So you need the correct codecs installed to play your video.
Try the storm codec pack, it seems to work pretty well for me.

K-lite mega codec pack is one of the best I have found and would defiantly recommend it.

Re: AVI Video
Use G-Spot to analyse the file, just do the following
1.Right Click and click Open with
2.In the Open with window click browse and locate the Gspot Exe, for me its in the "C:\Program Files\ACE Mega CoDecS Pack\UtilitieS\GSpot" directory
3. Remove the alway's open with this program Cross and click Ok
4.The Program will automatically analyse the file, after its done you'll see this

The 2 button's i highlighetd mean that u alreay have the codec on your computer to play the file.
if it show's no codec loaded then go to Google and type the name of the codec which should appear in Gspot.

Re: AVI Video
Are you sure the files isn't just damaged?
WMP is very picky, it won't play damaged files while other players do.
I recommend VideoLAN: http://www.videolan.org/
If you have all the codecs installed, and videoLAN still can't play it it's probably messed up.
Next you can also try AVIpreview: http://www.avipreview.com/ It's not as good as videoLAN, but it's especially designed to show damaged/incomplete files.
