Yes, they breaking immersion and are to prominent.
No, I do not notice them ingame.
Not that Lucifer he made a topic about that long ago. It's not a joke.

I dont know what the hell you posted last page ysl, but if its the realthen god be with you.
Hello guys, I am back with an update about Level of Detail issues in Rome 2:
Someone gave me a copy of Rome 2 so I was able to test the game again with no updates (release state) and each single patches we got since release. I had 3 goals to install a second Rome 2 on my computer:
- redo the benchmarks on the same software and hardware platform I have used for testing patch 11.1, to get a more qualified output and higher quality results
- have a look on the development on the graphical quality of the game
- having a closer look on things like the LoD issues we discuss here
Now I am having the opportunity to run the game with the same settings (Windows and drivers) I have to say that I notice exactly the same LoD issues in the release version of Rome 2 as we discuss here to have since patch 8.
This is a quite turn around as we issued CA they degraded the level of details in the game. Now I wonder if this is not the case, what is causing the issues then? Is there any driver responsible for this problem? Still I have to say that the way the LoD issues appear in the release version of the game are not that bumping but they are recourring and happen in the same scenes, if I may use the benchmark for comparison again.
So it could be we all are not anymore that stunned by the graphics, and we have clearer mind to look on the game, who knows. It is the same with the graphical details. A lot changed in the game and honestly without having the pictures side by side we will not notice it and think it is quite similar. In regard of the LoD issues Lucifer and many other claimed I am unsure if this really happens, or we just have a sharpened view on the things now.
What do you think?

I played the game at release for about a month then took a 6 month break from the game. When I started playing again I noticed a definite difference in the graphics (for the worse). So for me personally I can't say it was a matter of me getting used to the graphics due to the fact I didn't even play the game for a long time. You can see the difference when you watch gameplay videos at release and then watch ones made recently.
Thanks for your opinion Barritus, still if I compare the release state and watch the benchmark scenes, the LoD issues are the same to be honest. Maybe they weren't so prominent as said, but so far I changed my mind about it is getting worse.

I'm not so sure. If you watch player made videos around release you can see a noticeable difference as compared to the state of the game today. I was just watching some videos from September and I didn't see any of the LOD popping that plagues my gameplay. In addition, the quality of the units was much better when zoomed out. Didn't look like sprites. I understand that this is just the way the game is going to be going forward and we just have to get used to that fact but when the devs pretty much say on the official forums they aren't experiencing the same issues then it's worth bringing to their attention IMO.
btw I appreciate all the research and work you do to try to make the game better. Keep up the good work!
I made a video about increased LoD. FPS at the up-right corner for comparison.

Thanks for addin this video ysl. Before there is any confusion about the drastically changes we can see there, we have to know that you are disabling the LoD completely, so to prevent any misunderstanding, the differences to see are not Rome 2 with initially LoD and reduced LoD, as discussed in this thread.
If anyone wants to try out this "cheat" have a look into ysl's thread for this

WHat i hate most is snow maps where vegetation just dissappears outside the circular LOD and pops in in terms of grass etc.

What I said was most likely too generic. I just wanted to express that I compared the complete Rome 2 benchmark scene without patches and patch 3 and also comparing it with patch 9 and 12 and except the some details that are gone, e.g. raindrop on the "cam lens", dense vegetation and grass the LoD issues were indeed the same, at least in these scene. I will not put my hand into the fire that was not rebalanced for other parts of the game. If I find some time I could check the scenes we saw on the youtube video a member submitted here and on totalwar.com.

My LOD was already horrendous because I play at 3240x1920, I'm used to everything popping in and out like tree's, mountains, buildings, grass, the detail on the shore near the water and bricks in the road. Just a shame in the next patch most will have a game that looks like mine, a terrible one.
