It is not a big deal to just remove walls completely, thus, removing siege battles... all you need to do, is to remove walls from major city buildings... (only question is, if there even are maps without walls..)

if you look at minor settlements, you still have AI problems there, even with no walls. Not a solution.

Besides, I hated the Darth Mod release where he removed all the forts. And he had to bring 'em back, because it was creating other problems for the AI.

No. not a solution. I prefer broken siege AI to no walls mod.
I really thought major bugs like these would have been fixed by now.
    My config:
    Windows 10 64 bit 1903
    AMD Ryzen 7 1700x
    RX Vega 64 8gb HBM2
    16gb RAM DDR4 3200mhz
    Samsung 960 EVO 5000
    WD Caviar Black 4TB
All Windows patches installed, latest drivers for motherboard and videocard (from AMD)

Anyone actually tried a siege battle with the beta patch yet?

Go read the patch notes again, it clearly states changes to the A.I. behaviour in siege battles.

yes ....it was still a 'drop siege engines' 'torch throwing' mess.....i realise now that it will never be fixed.

Which is just more trouble then its worth. They're just going to focus on trying to make the AI properly recognize, and use siege equipment/weapons, before resorting to torches. The torches should, after all, be a last ditch effort to break into the settlement. After all, going through the gate is generally the worst possible place to attack from.

NO, torches are just a mean how to achieve their goal - Their goal was to have sieges resolvable without any siege equipment, and torches were the means how to do it... In previous games, if you had siege equipment and it got destroyed, siege battle would end as defeat, yet, you will be still sieging until you build new equipment, or until defender decides to sally forth, and win the battle... yet in Rome 2, all you get is single battle that has to resolve the siege either way... Walls mean nothing, as they are just a minor tactical advantage for defenders, AI will completely ignore on their gate run.

It is actually a quite strange design decision which doesn't go well with other CA goals to reduce the need for an army as a city garrison... With Walls not stopping AI/Enemy for at least a turn, it gives you/AI no chance to actually send nearby army for help, which would actually reduce amount of times you have to fight siege battles to a minimum... (practically only if no army is nearby.)

Overall, Rome 2 is full of half baked design decisions which either doesn't work together, or contradict themselves... another typical is the fact, that with force march insta-ambush, there is practically no need to have Ambush stance in game, while ambush type of battles is now much more common than before.

It took CA a month to come up with the fixes for patch 10, really? What were they doing exactly? These people are either incompetent or SEGA hamstrings them.

Probably wandering in WarHammer forests and dreaming of lucrative wood-elves. But don't worry mate, a new scorpions and bees DLC is already on the way.

It's truly formidable how some people can still play this mess called Rome 2. Honestly, I don't even know why I keep waiting for the next patch, it's hopeless. If I had been to the modding summit, I would just like to ask all those happy people one single question: If they do actually play their own vanilla nightmare Rome 2 and still have fun with it.

    * These are the sort of questions I would like to ask them: Guys, do you enjoy playing naval battles? And what about siege ones, are they fun? Is it cool paying attention to politics while waiting for civil wars? How about making a client state only to find out it brings no benefits whatsoever?

There are several people on this form that claim to enjoy every aspect about the vanilla game and claim this is CA's best game to date.... the people that think that are probably the same type of clown that thinks COD is some sort of fantastic representation of modern warfare. smfh why cant casual gamer kids that don't want to actually think when they play games stick to the xbox and playstation?

Actually on topic: So from reading through this thread I am getting the distinct impression that it isn't worth updating to beta patch 10. Another thing, it has been what close to a month since patch 9 came out and this is what we get? I'm thinking we are nearing the end of the patching process...

I don't know why you still reply to krisslanza. Gotta give him credit for his dedication tho.

These are laughable patch notes for a game with these serious issues. Really. It was clear quite from the beginning that it would take a really long time to get this thing in an acceptable state. But they're not even halfway there. And of course the terribly bad design won't get 'fixed' by patches, because CA refuses to admit that it's bad.

not to mention patch notes aren't exactly the word of god either, its probably some schmuck who is being told to write them on the fourm, they give him a list he writes it, i'm sure the vetting process stops there. No one for CA is going to question "Are these fixes real or are you just telling me to write them down?"

So far the actual game play speaks for itself, there has been little to no fixes to seige AI, the 30 something page thread that I made a couple months back is telling, not to mention the two or three threads on the front page at any one time

    * Battlefield death animations no longer with the victim in a kneeling pose. .....I guess it was too serious of an issue to be left for another patch. As if all other major issues are fixed . Hey don't laugh about it. This is 117.6 mb of perfection (hard work) we got here! - DEI released an update two days ago. It was 153 mb. Now you can laugh .

Maybe it's 5GB of mods - is that what they said about total patches?

perhaps, I've at least downloded 3 gb of patches from release to now, don't see a whole lot of difference. Patch 7 and 9 were a gig each I think.

I have AMD graphics cards in CrossfireX, and have an increase 32 FPS average to 45 FPS average!

However I wont be singing C.A.s praises or holding hands into the wee hours with them, because I wonder how its taken over 6 months to get these improvements?
I am not easily pleased and am not that impressed either, I don't think I am the only one I shouldn't wonder?!
    Hello Graham,
I also have AMD HD7970, but when I run Crossfire the screen starts to flicker, am I messing anything?
Also would you know if patch 10 is save game compatible?

    Hello Graham,
Thanks for your assistance, I did everything you said, I updated my AMD to the saltest beta drive (amd_catalyst_14.2_beta1.3), and followed your directions to the 3D settings..., but when I loaded a custom battle, I started seeing squares all over the map! do you also get the same thing? or do I need to change some settings in game graphics?
And one more thing, how can I tell my FPS is there a feature built ingame, or do I need to install something?
And once again thank you for your time and help
