I almost would've thought that was a 1337 map from the Western European borders, tbh.

My 1337 HIP Game I plan on exporting, starting as King on Norway-Sweden.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

A Genius child who is heir to both Poland and Lithuania. His father inherited genius from the starting king, who was genius. Lithuania had gone Orthodox, then the King was replaced by Pagans, who were immediately crusaded into Catholicism. Then the Byzantine Empire which has been alive in the Aegan Islands and with one county in Greece following Kingdom of Africa winning the Jihad suddenly ceased to exist and Orthodox became a heresy.

Sounds like a really fun game. What modules of HIP are you using there? I found it boring using VIET Immersion instead of SWMH.

I used all but SWMH, which wasn't updated when I started playing.

I actually converted to EU4 now and am just trying to save up so I can begin colonization. Luckily, the Spanish and Portuguese are killing each other so I don't think they'll be able to colonize. I'm just pissed I got Swedish instead of Norwegian ideas, though. And now it'll take awhile to annex my vassals.

My current, rather depressing game with the de Normandie dynasty and it's meagre holdings

I started as the chief of Trondelag in 867 and went to war with Brittany for the county of Mortain. I just managed to managed to scrape a victory and granted the county to Hrolf de Normandie, which was my plan all along. I then switched to play as Hrolf and immediately swore fealty to the King of West Francia and continued on playing the dynasty trying to secure the Duchy of Normandy inside the kingdom, which was surprisingly the hardest part of the game. I continued on from there with the hope of converting to Catholic, becoming Norman and conquering England.

However, things didn't work out like that at all. For some reason my culture just won't switch to Norman. I was waiting for another ruler to convert me to Catholic but before I realised that would never happen it was too late. For some reason a lot of my dynasty and my heirs started following the Slavic religion (I most likely wasn't paying attention.) which made my vassals and liege hate me and things went downhill from there. I managed to hold it together for a while but the current King, Andre Karling has gone on a crazy Pagan purge and is doing his utmost to get rid of any Pagans around the place. This included putting me in prison, revoking my duchy and giving them to his cousin who then in turn revoked all my counties until I ended up playing as my uncle, my current character.

I'm determined to see this through though and if I can get back into a place of power I'm going to take an unholy revenge on the Karlings!

On the bright side at least my current character isn't bloody Slavic and I managed to convert his heir and only son to Catholic so things are looking up in a weird way.

    Meet King Brynden I Lannister!

At the age of 6 months, Brynden's father, King Tytos, died of stress, at the tender age of 43!

Having a unified kingdom over The Rock and The Reach, I feared Brynden would be judged by his age, when, in fact, he was well received by his court and vassals. Fighting four wars before his 15th birthday, you might notice his exceptional prestige all before the age of 20!!

Brynden's grandfather, Tommen III, regained the lost Brightroar, Valyrian Steel sword that was lost in the Doom of Valyria. This inspired him to engage in political suave and to conquer the world!

And conquer he did... Marriage-wise. He married Heir to the Reach (Valiete Gardener), whose parents luckily didn't bear a male heir!

Having a child, Tytos, he became legitimate heir of The Reach and The Rock. Valiete died in her mid-40's, and with Tommen's strong hold over The Rock, Tytos had a sense of protection as he spread the power of House Lannister over The Reachmen. Tommen went to war 7 times for Tytos (mostly against invasions by the Storm Kings).

Tommen died at the age of 71, leaving a 40-year-old King Tytos as King of the Rock, as well.

The first unified king, had three daughters... Then, shortly before his own death, his wife, Cariah Arryn (Princess of the Mountain and Vale), became pregnant with the first legitimate male heir; Brynden Lannister.

Surviving infancy, childhood, and teenager years, Brynden powered up his prestige, martial ability, and became a true knight of the Realm!

Now, with a long, healthy kingship ahead of him, backed by the power of 120,000 men, The Stormlands shall weep!

Oh, and Brynden is married to Princess Mariah, Princess ruler of Dorne.

in my current campaign as Hæstein of Nantes, my realm is not all that great. in fact the lack of greatness is what puts it appart from most other campaigns where i usually have empire after 4-5 generations.

    Hæstein the Hunter

starting off at Nantes i promtly planned an invasion of France. whil ethe troops were gathering some count in Bretagne revolted against their liege, as it was next-door i jumped in and took them.
my invasion was cut a bit short, due to circumstances i can not recall, so i only took half the realm.
i then alternated between invading France, Aquitaine and Bretagne, while taking concubines and producing offspring en masse.
one of my sons, Sigurdr, went to Constantinople to join the Varangian guard. but not befor i had an affair with his wife that resulted in a (grand)daughter.
i attempted to assasinate the heir of the guard, hoping my son would rise in their ranks. but it became a hot mess...
eventually Sigurdr came home, orthodox and with a grudge. evidentially i was caught kissing his wife in public and somehow he managed to put me(his father and liege) in the dungeon, where i died after refusing to ransom myself.
i thought i should never had landed that boy, i could not be more wrong.
while Hæstein was locked in the dungeon, Bertangaland was invaded by East Frankia and lost the Auvergene.

    Ragnarr the Gentle

when Hæstein died in Sigurdr`s dungeon, the eldest son Ragnarr took over the realm.
tiered of the pagan manglekind sucession gaveling my realm i decided to play as the norse orthodox Sigurdr.
King Ragnarr was not all that gentle as he stirred enough commotion to attract a huge crusade, just after depleeting his troops taking Touluse.
even though Sigurdr could only muster 700 men i decided to throw my puny weight in there with my bro. lo and behold, the christian brethren refused to fight any battle against the orthodox Sigurdr and eventually the war score ticked out and Ragnarr of Bertangaland won.
eventually Ragnarr would be killed in battle while invading Viscaya.

    Sigurdr

Now Sigurdr was quite the piece of work.
after having his father thrown in the dungeon and die, Sigurdr started to make room around the family table. he did only kill 1 brother though...
Sigurdr had his brother Ragnarr`s all 4 children assasinated, with the help of Ragnarr`s spymaster. for some reasson Ragnarr had picked a jew with super intrigue for spymaster, not a good choice for a pagan king. needing no other help than the spymaster Sigurdr got away with murder...
being orthodox Sigurdr had limited choices of invasion, except the occational fabricated claim.
eventually there were an opening in the troubled Umayyad Spain, so Sigurdr rushd in there and was hit on the head. yet the holywar for Castille was a success.

    Ofeig the Cruel

Ofeig being the only male heir had no troubles ascending the throne, but instituted elective sucession none the less. and no matther the epithap, he was a good guy releasing women and children and ransoming captured men.
Ofeig married Bonne Karling, to keep in good grace with the now Holy Roman Emperor. Ofeig tried to support his brother-in-law Lodjewiik Karling in conquest for duchy of Wessex. but when that failed he launced and invasion on behalf of his wife, it succeded.
When Bonne Karling died, leaving Wessex to Sigurdr II, Ofeig married countes Hiligonda of Evreux. Hiligonda died under suspicious circumstances, most likely by her sisters orders.
so Ofeig married duchess Hereswith of Essex and they had one daughter.
by this time most of the rulers in the realm of Bertangaland had converted to Orthodoxy and the rest were weeded out.
Ofeig`s best friend, the duke of Aquitaine, kept supporting Ingjald Ofeigsson against his brother Sigurdr. eventually it resulted in an open revolt and yet Ofeig spared his friend any har. this is not thje acts of a cruel man!
Saga Ofeigdottir married the Byzantine Basileus, an important ally in Ofeigs invasion of Leon which was won by the skin of his teeth.
eventually Ofeig died from the stress of holding too many holdings (or too many wifes).

    Sigurdr II

Sigurdr II married Binhilde karling, she died and with her the friendly connection to HRE. Sigurdr II then married Cynethryth of Lincoln.
Finally Ingjald Ofeigsson was made duke of Wessex and all was good between the two brothers.
now Ofeig II Sigurdrsson is married to the heiress of Burgundy. heiress after Sigurdr II had her useless older sister killed. the young Yngvar Sigurdrsson is married to a byzantine princess born in the purple and 2nd in line to the empire(unless aunt Saga has a boy).
now there is war with both the Abassids and soon the HRE, in suport of Byzantium. hopefully it will be worth it.

My current ironman game 867 start as Dyre the Stranger (FYI I have changed the name and coat of arms of dynasty). I was able to get my Dynasty to throne of Bulgaria (Couple assassinations was needed to do that). Scotland also belongs to my dynasty (my dwarf dynasty member was able to inherit it).
My sister also ruled Kingdom of France a few months (thanks to his son, King of East Francia, who started war against former King of France, who was jailed by King of Aquitaine). However she lost kingdom back to former king who still were in prison and were there end of his life.

Might be that I bought the DLC after I started this game which may have messed with something. If that's not the case then I have no idea. I never really thought about it.

It's been a little while since I've played this save, but I came back to it recently and got back to expanding Poland to proportions never before imagined. So many marriges, so many wars, so many rebellions. At this point I can create two imperial titles, the Wendish one and the Carpathian one. If this were a revenge fantasy against all those who have wronged Poland, the Germans would be next... And also probably the biggest challenge

Coat of arms are based of the founder of the dynasty, who in this case must be pagan. It's a rather annoying feature of this game.

Hmm Mithridates and absinthia have both betrayed the Norse faith

I started as Dyre too, initially I had planned to enjoy Norse mechanics for a while and then become Zoroastrian and go for the Eastern parts of the map (never did that before).
But the raiding, the blots, abducting women and making them concubines is just too great. Honestly I don't know if I can ever go back. So I had a change of heart and decided to defend the old faith against the Christians. Together with the other Norse rulers I want to push the Christians back and break them.

yeah playing Norse can feel op (with Dyre I managed to leave a treasury of 3400 gold for his successor -although it's already down to 1500 now just to preserve Dyre's accomplishments and help my brethrens out), but to keep the faith strong against Christians is really fun and challenging. The fighting on the British Isle is just epic. I managed to get access to the north sea, but I have too few ships to operate effectively. And with the conquest of Braunschweig, I have triggered the crusades in 920. Soon the Magyars will convert and I have a Christian realm next to my homelands. And there's still the Byzantine threat to the south.

But soon I will be able to reform. The question is if the loss of defensive attrition will be worth it at this earls stage.

    Yeah
Originally I was planning to become follower of Suomenusko but before that I was converted to Orthodox and my plan was forgotten.
Nowadays my dynasty rules, in addition of my own realm, Bulgaria, Scotland, Burgundy, Germany and Byzantium and soon also Bavaria will fall under rule of Dynasty of Romanum. I must admit that my dynasty ruling in Burgundy and Byzantium was not made by me. Byzantium with adventurer and Bulgaria with King of Bulgaria who put his son to throne of Burgundy (his son was heir and he just assasinated former king)

oh yes, reforming the norse faith and giving up raiding becomes stale after a few times. so i opted for orthodox christianity, hoping to gain the roman empire.
though not having emipire yet, i pretty much saved the day for my new faith. i guess when i am in i am all in.

my last reported charater Sugurdr II turned out to be great, though not a great feat in CKII, it is one of the most common epitaphs.
    Sigurdr II the Great

Sigurdr died incapable, for some reasson i can not recal.
his son Ofeig II married the Queen of Burgundy, which eventually died in der Kaisers dungeon.
    Ofeig II

Ofeig II had everything going for him and a lot of success in his short life, yet he got depressed and died of severe stress at age 37.
he was well into the marriage game, sticking his nose in everybodys love-life, and as a result various parts of England, Ireland and HRE now belongs to Bertangaland (Bretange). them parts in HRE causing big troubles with der Kaiser in later generations.
Ofeigs greatest achievement was clearing the way for his daughter-in-law to become Basileie of Byzantium, leaving a string of corpses.
    Ketill the Great

Ketill Ofeigsson was certainly fitting his epithaph, a great king and a gentleman.
His first marriage, to a Kornish princess, produced a genious son and ended with childbirth. his second wife became Basilissa after a couple of her siblings died mysteriously...
Kettil invaded the Umayyad for Granada and something must have broken, as catholic revolts erupted everywhere. Hispania is now more or less back in christian hands.
seing that the Shia Caliph in Tunis invaded Grece he joined his wifes side and kicked ass, then he invaded said caliph and took Tlemcen. the Caliph invaded back and Kettil defeated him by help of his brother in-law, der Kaiser.
meanwhile the great Suni Caliph invaded Byzantium and brought the warscore to above 50% before Kattil noticed.
mad as a bull Kettil moved his whole army to Anatolia to help his Basilissa. then the byzzie AI got stupid and Kettil had to do most of the fighting himself, spending more than 1000 gold on mercenaries and geting himself killed in battle.
while fighting in Anatolia he found time to produce two sons born in the purple.
    Thorarin

when his father died, Thorarin joined the Basilissa in defence of Anatolia and after 5 years of heavy fighting the byzzie AI fianlly brought its 12K stack that had been on ships in the black sea since the war started. the tide turned, yet the whole conflict probably took more than 15 years all in all. now the Suni Caliph seem to be strugling with some revolts due to heavy decadence.
the Shia Caliph on the other hand invaded Grece once again and was attacked by Thorarin over Kabylia. once again the Shia Caliph tried to take back lost land and was godsmacked, his epithap is "the Unready"...
feeling secure Thorarin suprisingly was attacked by HRE.
luckily his half-brother Ofeig, heir to Byzantium, was married to a Bulgarian princess. the combined forces of Bertangaland and Bulgria beat the Germans. and as tradition Thorarin counter attacked HRE for a scrap of land and won easily over the depleated HRE.
again the Shia Caliph attempted to re-take kabylia - what is wrong with this guy... having a bunch of mercenaries standing after the HRE-wars, Thorarin won easily. Though Ofeig, his half-brother, died in the war.
then der Kaiser attacked again, breaking the truce, and now Thorarin is without allies.

what do you mean, you can still raid after reforming?

But yeah, it's a bit frustrating at the moment. I'm constantly defending myself or other Norse rulers, I don't have any time for blots or raids anymore

The catholics are a real pain with their op holy orders. Luckily I still have version 2.14 running where they disband them all the time. I still get drowned with holy orders. But the most annoying things are the liberation revolts. The first one I got not even a year after I conquered the Wessex kingdom in a Great holy war where I had to defeat countless British armies, it was so stupid I reloaded (if they come with this fould bs I can play foul too), they could quickly assault my low garrison holdings before I could do anything. Then a big rebellion spawned against Jorvik and took them out, sitting right norrth of me. And now there's another revolt for targetting my realm again. ANd this all because the ruler of Wessex formed the English kingdom shortly before I could finish him

    Finaly i gained empire.
    Imperium Normanorum

and i have a bunch of kids to grant me alliances.
    the clan Hæsteining

only thing bugging me now is that i can not both marry my heir to Queen of England and give him land. either i have to let him leave for the well stated Queen and see Provance and Burgundy left to my second oldest. i am severely above demesne limit, 18-8.
or i will have to marry him to a purple Byzantine princess, which is also my kin, and kill her 3 brothers to place her on the throne. problem is that Basileus is quite old and i might not have time for ploting.
my second oldest will then have to marry England while the third the next Queen of Italy.
my brother is more powerful than he looks and is also married to a powerful duches, while my uncle is king of Africa and hates me plenty.
