My current character, Margareta de Mongomery, Queen of England and Sweden.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Having an absolute heap of fun with this game. Has to be one of my favourites so far. I've been trying my best to role play every character so far and I've stayed away from using fabricating claims too much. I've also let myself go ahead with ahistorical things. In this game, I married a close relative to the Jarl of Uppland several generations ago and Margareta was the first character inherit both England and Uppland. She owned just under half of Sweden so I used her inheritance of England to press on and usurp the Kingdom of Sweden. Before I would never have done this because I thought it was too ahistorical and would have instead tried to lose the Jarldom of Uppland.

I started the game as Roger de Montgomery, Duke of Kent in the William the Conqueror bookmark and did my best to expand the dynasty's power in England while still trying to role playing. After about 80 years, with my liege sitting on the throne of England and France, that I managed to gain enough support to gain a claim on the English throne. With the French fighting for independence I decided to declare war. With most of his soldiers in France and my considerable demesne, I was fairly confident of victory. This was assured when I laid siege to London and found the King to be among the captives after we took Westminster. I was easily able to claim the throne and leave the de Normandie family with nothing but a rebellious French nation.

Right so my granddaughter came of age so of course I started looking for a suitable marriage for her and got too absolute whoppers. First was an exiled Norwegian prince who had a strong claim on the Kingdom of Norway. That would have allowed me to press it and unite Scandinavia (if you ignore Finland).

However the other suitor was the heir to the Kingdom of Navarra, Kingdom of Aquitane and Kingdom of Castille. I couldn't believe my luck!

I considered taking the first marriage for role-playing purposes, to avoid a massive, messy land-grab but then I decided the second marriage made more role-playing sense. I mean it just came up as a matter of circumstance and if the real Queen of England had a chance to marry her granddaughter to the heir of three kingdoms, I'd imagine she'd take it no matter how messy it got.

So I married Infante Karlos de Vidaure to my granddaughter and only a few weeks later, the King of Navarra had an accident and died

Despite the king turning out to be a bit gay, they have already conceived a daughter. So if we can manage to keep the kingdoms together, my great-grandchild should have 6 crowns to place on their brow.

    My character or my great-granddaughter?

Well my character is Swedish, as for my great-granddaughter, I have no idea. I'm playing with the HIP mod and it changes the cultures around a good bit.

So, Iīm done now with my Karling play-through, it was a blast, although the empire was starting to crumble towards the end. I even got a brilliant ruler, the son of my youngest sister, but he ruled only 7 years before he
catched a cold and died Unfortunatly, the game got too big and I couldnīt export it anymore, shame it would have been interesting.

Iīve started a new game now, behold my realm !

The Faroe Islands are one of my favourite starts in CK II. Raiding, building up your island, more raiding, imprison an insolent bishop, siege christian holdings, capture all the children and women,
sacrifiece them to the gods, honor the gods by more raiding, itīs the simple life for me

Not sure, what Iīm going to do, perhaps expand my realm a little bit and hold on against christianity as long as I can? Knutīs mom and granddad both lived to their 30īs so surviving until age 35 could be a first goal.

If you started in 867, as which karling? Im trying to figure out which one has the best inheritance outlook while simultaniously not having terrible traits.

Was gonna post a pic of my abbasid empire, but put that on hold since decadence is now hurting me and the bug prevents me from doing anything about it that isnt a zero sum game

I started in 1066 as Karling ,sry

But I think all the Karlings get claims on each others titles,if you start as West Francia, youīre pretty safe, if you start as East Francia you can form the HRE pretty quick Iīd assume.

I bought Crusader Kings II yesterday and I must say that I enjoy playing it.
I started my first game in 1066. I started as count of Auvergne in France under the duke. After 29 years I got my independence and I'm not anymore under the duke.
How did I do that? First France divided to two kingdoms and I and my liege became to be under the kingdom of Aquitaine. Then my liege started revolt/war againgst his new ruler. After that my liege started some kind war actions against his other vassal. I decided that then was my change and I declared war against my liege (My county was also besieged and occupied by king of Aquitaine, so I thought that I wouldn't lose anything). My independence war against my former liege ended when King of Aquitaine defeated my former liege and result of that I got my independence. I'm thinking that I will join one of the kingdoms soon because I think that I will lose if I stay as independence. Now I must think which of them would be good to join.

    My power keeps growing
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Yesterday I was Count and then I became Duke and now I am King.

I became Duke after my former liege (my brother-in-law) started second revolt against King of Aquitaine (Because the King tried to imprison him). My brother-in-law asked me to join but I refused and as a result King of Aquitaine was so happy to hear that and promoted me to become Duke of Auvergne.
Kingdom of Aquitaine had elective monarchy and I realized that I did have good chage to become next king (Of course everybody changed their minds just before old king died). New king was just a child and I had most votes to become next king. I realized that if I wanted to become new king, the current king had to die before me. So, I started the plot to assassinate the king. My plot worked and I became new king.

Well done man, you did really well there. I can't remember the last time I went from Count to King with one character. Quite an interesting story as well.

What's that nation in Britain actually?

That's just an English revolt. They added proper revolt factions in one of the latest updates I believe.

    Thanks to you.
Yeah it is English revolt that was against Norwegian King (King was Norwegian because King of Norway had conguered whole England but his sons divided his realm). Revolt almost succeeded but then France and Norway went to help England.

Well its ironman, so i cant switch dynasties. Main aim was to convert all of rajestan to muslim for the achievement, but when the 4th crusade for greece was called, i was sick of it (i was playing on 5x since all i had to do was waiting for the conversion). So when the crusade was called, i created persia and rajestan for the other achievement (waited for it so not to mess with CA), and to my suprise they both popped although not everything was converted, about 70% of the counties.

It was really a pain at that point to raise and move all the armies, especially since i was at 200k... And then the popups for the ashari vs mutalawaz school as well, along with a lot of buddhist revolts. I could have conquered more of africa, but like said, i wasnt bothered anymore. I did took khiva to be able to form persia (cause mesopotamia had drifted out of de jure persian empire) :p All strategy games have that point where its not interesting anymore, and with that amount of troops and almost 15k of money...

Guess ill go with hindu/buddhist/jain character next time; After all this it would be really hard to play as christian again :p

īCourse, you must play in Ironman to get the achievements, I forgot. Yeah, once you reached a certain point, all opposition withers away and massive retinues just make it so much easier. Maybe Paradox should make it so, that you can only gain Retinues from your own lands Why donīt you start being a complete d**k to your subjects, you know just let Tyranny reign supreme and Decadence go skyhigh, letīs see how long you can keep your empire together.

Have you tried Historical Immersion Project? It balances a lot of things, also adding expenses to your retinues during peace times. Though if you also use SWMH, there will be no India for now, but the map just looks gorgeous!

Wel i was doubting to let decadence happen next time to get a decadence revolt and crush it (also an achievement), but they reworked decadence so much that i dont know how decadence revolt work now. Asked it on the paradox forum but havent got an answer there

You must have members of your family who have the "decadent" trait, to increase your total decadence level. I think it just pops up over time.
