No Banners on installation (vanilla M2TW unpatched)

I just reinstalled M2TW (original disc version) anew on my computer and it appears that the unit banners are not showing during the battles.

Could someone indicate the file that deals with banners on the battle map or even better post it in here ?

Vanilla as stated in the title of the thread.

It seems that my banners got corrupted my a mod even after full uninstallation/reinstallation of the whole game. But I found an old backup of my Medieval II Total War folder pre-mods. It works fine now.
