    Default Upgrade Question

Okay, so I'm going to update one of my other computers, so I'm going to buy this video card:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131430

And this memory in addition to the 512MB it currently has:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820121018

Now my question, I'm running on a tight budget as usual and am uncertain as to whether I am going to build a new computer, so would these two parts upgrade my computer to the point where I could put off upgrading for atleast six or seven months?

    Ehh, your links are dead.

The AGP 7600GS is a good card in the $125 range, and then there is the more expensive 7800GS. Those are about the only good AGP choises available now. As for ram, just get the cheapest one you can get.

You need DDR memory not DDR2, just get the cheapest 512 stick of DDR you can find. The X1600Pro is a good card, but if you can spare $25 more the Geforce 7600GS is a much better deal.

Are you sure it's normal DDR?

I'm pretty sure, but download CPU-Z to confirm it.

Will do, but that computer isn't connected to internet right now, so will do it tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure from the looks of the memory that i took out of it it's 240 pins. You want me to take a pic?

Well that computer has an AGP slot, so it's pretty old. Old computers usually have DDR.

Yep, it's DDR alright. Since it's only PC2700, your new stick of RAM will run at the same speed, even if you buy PC3200.

That's what I was thinking, and plus it uses GDDR3 memory, while the x1600 uses GDDR2, and on top of that, both have 12 Pixel Pipelines, and if I am not mistaken both have 256 Memory.

Have you considered the 7600GS I posted?

I trust you, but I just want to see some specs to understand what I am investing in. I am 14 and money does not come easy to me, and plus, I don't have a job, can't get one till 16 and only get 8 bucks a week, so yea, you understand.

Also Incinerate, isn't the x800 GTO better than the 7600GS? It uses GDDR3 memory, and same amount of Pipelines, as well as memory.

Its cheaper too, because it got free shipping. And it should perform better than X800GTO (being newer), and it supports SM3.0.

Actually, after checking some reviews, you should stick to the X800GTO. Even though the Geforce 7600GS supports HDR and all those stuff, it probably won't have enough power to even run it smoothly.

Well newer games(like Oblivion) supports some new features like HDR, which pretty much makes for more realistic lighting. But you need a graphics card that supports SM3.0 use it. The Geforce 7600GS supports that feature, but it HDR uses so much resources that you probably will never get a chance to use it. So stick with the X800GTO, it does perform a little bit better.

How long will HDR become a common norm for all games to have?

Actually, HDR is utter crap, from what I have seen it makes everything so absurdly white. I seen a pic of it in city 17 in a mag I think, all there was was masses of window's on white buildings, the only time a city was seen by people that bright was at 8:16am, 1945, and they were vapourised 0.5 milliseconds later. So really HDR is pretty rubbish currently, you are using far more rescources just to make everything pure white, not at all realistic and dosent even look as good as when HDR is turned off.
